Thread: An opinionated question for the crafters of SWG.

First I would like to tell you a little bit about myself before I get to my question. My first MMORPG was Ultima Online, which I had one crafter (armorsmith) and the remaining four characters were strictly combat based. When I came to SWG I started as a crafter unsure of what I wanted to make. However, while venturing around Tatooine I was persuaded by a friend to become a combat-based character.

In November when the holocrons were introduced I was told to master Droid Engineer, Bio Engineer, Musician, and Medic. As you can see three of the professions had a crafting line inthe prerequisites to becoming master. Even with musician I was able to craft my own instruments. While working on the above professions I realized how much I missed crafting, but my setup doesn't not allow for me to become a crafter.

Do you feel it would be a wise idea to purchase another account to make myself a craftingcharacter or would it be unwise due to the servers already having an established community of crafters? Also, how hard do you think it would be for a new crafter to establish a large enough customer base to make purchasing a second account worth it? Finally, do you think master more than one crafting profession would hinder establishing a customer base and take too much time away from my combat character?

Note: Anyone on Wanderhome please reply as that is the only server I play on.

I took the opposite approach recently. I had a character that was mostly crafter whith just enough combat to be safe when out checking harvestors. But I wanted to see a little more action so I opened a second account for a combat wookie. Not that my little story helps you out here.

I say, if you think it's something that might be fun for you to do, then go ahead. This is a game that you are supposed to enjoy, don't approach it as if you are opening a small business in real life. Even if you only have sporadic customers you can still have fun with the account.

Lol, there are a LOT of people who have 2 accounts - 1 for crafting and 1 for fighting. In fact, I know at least 2 people who have 3 accounts - crafting, fighting and BH. So much for SCS.....

My altis going Master Carbineer/BE (for the tissues....)

So, if you have the money for 2 accounts, go for it. My play has opened up considerably, now that I can go with my guildies to the Geno Lab or the Corvette, instead of just hearing them talk on PA chat about it.

Hmmm, I see that I did not answer your questions, though:

Do you feel it would be a wise idea to purchase another account to make myself a craftingcharacter or would it be unwise due to the servers already having an established community of crafters?

This might be causing problems, what with all the second accounts around, but hey, join the crowd.....

Also, how hard do you think it would be for a new crafter to establish a large enough customer base to make purchasing a second account worth it?

If your stuff is good and worth the price, you should have no problems getting a good customer base. Try to find a mall to put your vendors in.

Finally, do you think master more than one crafting profession would hinder establishing a customer base and take too much time away from my combat character?

I spend a lot of time on my crafting - running around collecting resources is the time sink here. Figure at least an hour per day or more when running harvesters. (Of course, you can buy resources, but the price is high compared to getting your own.) I've had problems getting a good base for my chef stuff, but that might be because everyone and his cousin is becoming a chef, I dunno.....

I look at it this way. If you want to throw 15 more dollars a month away on this game then hey, that's your choice. You get 8 character slots, the only requirement is you can only have one character per server. So what stops these people from making a crafter on one server and a combat character on another escapes me. Maybe they want to make the goods for their other character? That defeats the purpose of relying on your fellow gamers to me. But, like I said, it's each player's decision what to do with their money.

To be honest the decision to open a second account has almost nothing to do with ingame concerns. It has two main driving factors, personal money and personal time. If you can afford it, fine. However you need to be sure you're prepared to put in the extra time required, or that you can afford to curtail your playtime with your current character. The time sink issue is the most important.

PS- I have 2 characters, both crafting/combat hybrids. I felt i could handle the commitment of 2 characters and its been great so far.
