Thread: A few words about Armorsmiths and Tailors.
Hello Everyone,
I like to say a few words about the experience required to go up in levels. Specifically Armorsmiths because they have to use syncloth and reinforced fiber panels which only Tailors can make.
I have been playing this game since Beta 3 and back then it was not as tough to get these advanced classes if you tried to. Now these days it is extremely tough and quite frustrating. I am not a power gamer. I play a little over 6 hours a night and sometimes leave my character running at work to get resources. Which is very time consuming itself.
I was playing today and had the one goal of getting to Novice Tailor. Just the first step to getting where I would like my character to be.
To get to novice tailor you need to get 19,200 Crafting experience, but the greatest thing you can craft that really gives you that boost in experience is Chest armor made of bone.
which gives you a little short of 600 xp per set. So You have to make 32 of them.
Now we must take in account the materials to make 32 exact sets of chest armor
You will need the following items.
1,728 bone
3,360 hide
800 PetroChemicals
1,088 Metal
768 Fiberplast
Now it gets worse. Lets say you are able to procure/buy/sell your soul for all that. You get one class and that is novice in Tailor. Lets not forget you need to get two levels of tailor experience at 76,800 so you can get reinforced panels just so you can make better armor.
And then finally after getting all that experience and spent all that time to get what you need for you class. You start the process all over again and work on your Armorsmith Class.
For which you need a measly 16,800 to get novice in. Which translates to 28 Chest Armors made of bone. Thankfully there is a bazzaar where we can sell this stuff or we would have to run around /shout FREE BONE ARMOR PLEASE TAKE IT!!. Which just starts all sorts of problems. As we have read on the board so far.
Now lets break down that 28 sets of Bone armor.
1,512 Bone
2,940 Hide
952 Metal
700 Petrochemicals
and 672 Fiberplast
All that just to get Novice in Armor smith. lets not even mention weapon smith who comes in at number 1 on this list at a whopping 21,000 experience to get novice. Granted there are some people out there that are now weaponsmiths and making these great weapons. But I have to say this. You have more patience than i will ever dream of having for making that accomplishment. Hopefully your parents and bosses do not mind that you have dropped off the face of the earth to get that novice level.
Now back to the problem. Can we do something to change the way this works Developers or you wont have to worry about people not tipping but not playing because you made the game to tough for those of us who love making stuff online and having a little fun. Right now it is just a grind. Back in Beta 3 It was done right. 9000 for novice and that was still tough but it was not frustrating.
You sell this game to people who are teenagers? Do you think that teenagers want to spend the next 8-10 hours making 32 or 28 sets of bone armor to get to their very first level. Do they really want to collect 3,240 Bone, 6,300 hide, 1500 Petrochemicals, 2,040 Metal, and 1,440 Fiberplast just to acquire two novice levels in two advanced professions. While their friends run around and just kill things and get more experience and can do it in groups to get even better experience now. Not to mention that those characters are running around with all that bone armor and cdef pistols we have to make just to go up in the crafting levels.
I mean do you honestly think people will pay 14.99 a month to go through all that? If you think so then you do not know the attention span of some players.
Now is there some way we can change this. I think when you made the changed between Beta3 and Release. You forgot about how much time it takes to first acquire all the items to craft. So please change the experience tables for Armorsmiths and Weaponsmiths and Tailors. Atleast let us enjoy this game and not sit in front of the computer and craft enough armor to supply A small platoon of soldiers.
One last thing. This is a great game but i think it needs to be tweaked a little more. So please see that this happens or well you created a profession that only people with a lot of patience can play and have fun in and that aint cool in anyone's book.
Thanks for reading and sorry it had to be so long but it really is just a few words
Everyone Have A Good Day
Just relax and enjoy the process. experiment or hire yourself out.
I totally agree about the XP. It wouldnt be so bad if there were other things we could do to get the Crafting XP, or more things to make. IT gets a little more than boring crafting armor over and over and over again.
I understand you want it to take time, but there has to be some way to level out the playing feild for those playing 20 hours a day, vs those who can only play a few. I mean that was the BIGGEST thing you wanted to do and I don't see it.
I am sure they won't change it, but it would be nice. Giving more XP when the things you made are used by others would be a good step. It's very low right now. I'd throw the crap away if I could, it would save time in having to sell it and the benefits in XP aren't worth it.
The only thing difficult about that is getting the hide and bone (and maybe for a skilled scout that's no problem either?).
800 PetroChemicals
1,088 Metal
768 Fiberplast
This is easy as pie. But, if running around surveying is not your thing, why not just buy it off the bazaar? After all you're selling those Bone Chests for $3000 a pop, I guess you can afford buying up the resources for much less. It keeps us surveyors in business too, and gives us money so we can buy the finished product.
I agree with the above post, on a game that we could all conceivably be playing for a year or more..... why should leveling to the top be done in a matter of days?
I want to rush up the skill tree as much as the next guy, but I still think it is a bit odd that people are ALREADY Master this or that..... it should take months of game play. Hell they should add a "real life" time requirement to leveling up as well.
What will we level up to once we reach the top of our profession? What use will all that XP be?
h... I made Novice Tailor today and i havent been giving away armor, in fact i think i may have only given away maybe 4-5 pieces, the rest i have sold on the bazaar. thats why i have a crap load of cash, 10 harvesters prepaid for the next 3 days, and quite a few scouts bringing me their bones and hides each day.
I do admit that i have an edge over the "casual" new player (and if you are playing 6 hours a day you are FAR from being casual). I was in beta and i know the game mechanics, plus i am not a casual player, i have probably played over 30 hours since release. but considering i have used about 110 of my skill points over 4 professions (one elite), that shows that if anything, advancement is too fast. at least for the starting professions.
Also, i didnt "grind" weapon powerups to get where i am now, (i admit i did make some to reach eng4, but thats it), if i had, i might be farther now, hard to say. considering 95% of the stuff i have crafted so far has been sold (and presumably used), thats alot of UXP for me.
The point im trying (badly) to make is that the the system is pretty solid as it is now. I probably just seems hard to the new player who doesnt have a firm grasp of the game mechanics and the economy.
