OK, so I'm experimenting and I had really good luck. I've got a good experimentation spec and I want to save it for future crafting sessions. Is that possible? Also, since I'm such a n00b at all this, I'm not sure how the manufacturing schematics work. Can anyone enlighten me on this?

Quick and dirty answer: you need a factory to use manufacturing schematics. With a factory you can crank out a crate of whatever you're making, but the process is slow and relatively expensive. Architects can make factories starting at Novice Architect, I believe, and continuing through their line devoted to harvesters and factories.
