Thread: Negative Power-Up Effects?
I'm dabbling in Engineering with the goal of doing a little weaponsmithing, so I've been making a lot of weapon power-ups, as they are one of the few things that are useful to me at the moment.
Some of them, however, seem like they have negative effects, like+Special Move Cost, +Max Range/Point Blank Penalty. Is this a display bug, and the power ups actually decrease the stat? Or are there actually some 'bad' power-ups? That would not make much sense, since the item creation was successful, often great or amazing successes.
Sometimes the apparently negative stat is a second modifier, so it's possible that they appear as a balancing effect (More damage/range/speed, but increased costs), but sometimes it appears as the only modifier.
So, are these apparently negative power-ups actually worth using? Or should I toss them out and try for something helpful?

I originally posted this on the Artisan board, but I thought it might be helpful to ask the people who actually see the power-up's effects.

Excellent. I was pretty sure it would actually grant a bonus, but if you take the display literally, it's a bad thing. Thanks for the input.
Think we should report it as a display bug? Not a high priority, but it would be nice to have the confusion cleared up.
Anyway, thanks again.

Wow.. you mean all those +3% special move mind cost powerups I destroyed were actually good?
I was begining to wonder about this myself, because it seemed I was getting more 'bad' powerups than good. It's definitely confusing as it stands. Enough so that I'd certainly consider it a bug. Not their highest priority, I'm sure.. but a bug none the less.
As you've noticed, the descriptions are somewhat misleading. If you actually apply them to a weapon, they tend to cause beneficial results. I have yet to see a "cursed" power-up.

Question abou tthe powerups. If you have a powerup how do you apply it to a weapon? Is it only applied when crafting a new weapon? Thanks.
Some weapons cannot be poweredup. I think that is due to a powerup being used while crafting. To try and use a power up quickliy drag the powerup over the weapon to powerup. Icon should go to hand over the weapon. It will give you a confirmation message that weapon is powered up and turn the weapons name to yellow, at least thats the color in my UI may be different for each user.
The negative modifiers are misleading but I also have yet to have one go down any usually just adds that % to the weapon for whatever the powerup modification is.
Hi all,
Not to be questioning, but are you sure the labels are misleading? I thought the same thing until I put a mod on my pistol that said it increased the action cost for special abilities. I too assumed it meant decrease, but my cost did increase. Heck, while crafting a variety of powerups I apparantly mangled one so it caused health damage (that's what it said) when you used it.
If you're certain they work as expected I'll take your word for it, but I don't think I'll put using or buying powerups unless the verbiage is fixed.
