Thread: Most Creative crafting profession?
It's a trick question, really - orI guess an invalid question.
It's not like you can be really funny and creative if only you are a weaponsmith but Architect just stops you from having any fun whatsoever...
Tailor sure does let you get creative in a fashion sense, but architect lets you be very creative in terms of interior decorating and furniture. Chef lets you tinker with ingredients and sen Pan Galactic GargleBlasters if that's your thing, and armorsmith lets you be very creative in terms of managing resources, combining product and producing items that need to be unique to stand out. Shipwrights have no real factory support so everything is hand tweaked for customers and it allows for tuning engines several different ways depending on subcomponents used.
So the answer really is, whichever professions sparks your imagination most creatively is the most creative. Above all, so something you enjoy and do it well. Making a product that is crap but sounds funny and doesn't sell will get old after a bit.
If you are a decorator it's certainly convenient to be an architect, but definitely not a requirement.
Is it matching clothes together to get a certain look?
Making specialised ship components that don't fall into the usual "Dump all exp points into stat X"?
Squeezing every single little point of protection into armour?
Gathering the best resources to be the best weaponsmith/chef?
Furniture decorating?
The responses so far are true, but I'd say they're also a bit incomplete.
The fundamental fact is that SWG doesn't have any crafting profession that allows for real creativity, because it's simply not possible in SWG to create truly new objects. You can only create the kinds of objects that are predetermined by the developers.
There are various reasons for not letting players do this, ranging from the technical (it's hard on a database) to the legal (if it's a unique creation, who owns the intellectual property rights?). But the result is a massive restriction on opportunities to be creative in crafting.
For example, LucasArts producer Julio Torres had an interesting commentrecently on whyMusicianswill not be given a new feature that allows themto create their own tunes in SWG: players would recreate copyrighted works inside SWG, which couldraise legal issues. I'd say he was right -- best case, this ability mightrequire the payment of a fee to ASCAP or BMI every time a copyrighted work was performed in SWG, and that's probably not a financial obligation SOE wants to take on.
Given such limitations, I would say that the Shipwright is probably the closest we can get in SWG. (At least, until the day comes that they implement my Modular Architecture proposal for Architects.)
If that's not good enough, then you might want to consider a game like Second Life by Linden Labs. Not only are you able to actually create entirely new objects through SL's scripting language, the SL user license explicitly recognizes the rights of players to the objects they create. SL requires broadband, but if you've got that and you really, really want a game that not only permits but rewards creativity, you might want to investigate Second Life.

Get a little scout, bit of architect and witha little imagination its very easy to create a fish tank which can be as unique as u like. U can give any component any name u like and can combine them with other objects to create some interesting creations, and don't forget all the loot u can use too. Think of all the artists in RL who use everyday items to create art, SWG doesn't limit ur creativity it just encourages u to use a little of ur own imagination. Check outthe previous winners of the Galactic Home Show for inspiration as well.
Your answer seems to be the best here. Being creative does NOT imply creating new and unique items, at least not in this game.
You must use your imagination to create things. Like, Cash Register using Structure & Furniture Crafting Tool, Re-named.
Show your imagination and creativity in any profession you choose.
Most of all, have fun and share your ideas and creativity with others.

ehh ill have to dissagree.. well mostly.. sure you dont have to be.. But all the really good ones are : ) Being able to make anything, speical names, using things for shapes or multiple peices to create something new. Have to beable to make it yourself or have a master slave in your back pocket.. Sure you can get by with out it.. But then you are working with generics and loot.. Which to me is not being creative : ) to me names on stuff is soo huge and really adds tons of flavor to your deco-design. with out arch you cant do it.. unless you have one that just loves to make everything special order. Ive yet to find one.

The ability to create truly new items, or to put items together in functionally unique ways (like a construction kit),or even to have the occasional surprise in a crafted item's list of capabilities -- those would be game systems that promoted creativity. SWG doesn't offer those things.
DoSWG players find ways toengage in creative play despite not having these capabilities?Yes... but thatsays more about them than it does about this game.
Please don't misunderstand me: I'm not bashing SWG.It does have somefeatures that allowlimited creativity, such as color customizations and object movement commands. It's justa typical big-developer MMORPG, which tightly constrains what players can do becauseits developers assume (with some reason) that any player freedom will be abused.Nodisparagementis intended when I point outthat a side effect of imposingthat level of control is a fairly low ceiling on what kinds and amounts of player creativity will be permitted.
The fact that people still findways to express their creativity is a tribute to human ingenuity. It doesn't mean that SWG favors or promotes creative play, and that's a useful point to make when someone asks a question about how tobe creative in SWG.

I think Bio-Engineer is one of the most creative professions in the game. On my server, I cant tell you how many /tells & emails I get daily due to the lack of BEs. Its amazing.
1. Tissues - Chefs are always in need of high end tissue for food/drink.
2. Tissues - Tailors are all over the new Modded clothing. Especially UA/TN and Ranged/Melee Defense.
3. Combat Medic Meds - All the 4000 CMs need meds.
4. Stims - a HUGE seller. Stim Ds fly off the shelves.
5. Doctor items - Not so big as of late, but I have a feeling that will change in the future.
6. Creatures - Its amazing how many CHs there are now that pets are effective in combat. More than half my emails and tells are from CHs wanting pets. Its unreal.
Only BE had this wide of a variety in what you can make. Each item is completely different in what it takes to make it and who it benefits. My favorite profession atm! ![]()
That's a good point, AluraLuxxana -- thanks.
In fact, I have heard from others that Bio-Engineers have more opportunities for creative gameplay than other professions in SWG. I can't say I've seen the levels of creative opportunity I'd like to see, but to be fair to SWG, many Bio-Engineers do seem happy.
Not that I'd say this too loudly if I were you. ![]()
