I'm a noob Artisan, just got in the game and am only lvl 5 combat. I see lvl 10-15+ creatureson Tatooinenear my harvesters all the time. I have RifleslevelIV currently. My concern is this...

How the hell am I to defendmyself against the creatures since I can't wear armor and every creature seems to be able to kill me at my level even??

Am I missing something here? If the game is like this on the noob planet of Tatooine, how am I to ever explore or live on the other planets at all???

Thanks.

You have a few options:
1) Stay at home where it's safe.
2) Get more combat skills and raise your level.
3) Get some camo and pray.
4) Get a droid or a lvl 10 pet.
5) Group with a high level character (they don't have to come with you) so you don't get 1-shotted.
6) Hire a bodyguard.

Mix and match to come up with something that meets your needs.

Yeah good advice here - grouping with a level 80 is a big help, hopefully someone in your guild won't mind grouping with you.

And droids, they are a lifesave for crafters - now they get to level 30 as well they really do make the difference. Get a combat droid, program it to guard, attact and follow. Call if while you are a little distance from your harvesters\factories etc, get it to follow and guard you. If there are any mobs that will agro you in close proximity then get it to attack them before you approach.

Do you see a problem? It's the fastest way to be back at the starport.

Last time Iwas back via cloning3 times before I was able to redeed 1 single mineral. I gave up and had to craft the following day.

Tryed the groupping option with the following answers:

0)afkers at the starports (... omissis ...)

1)full group sorry.

2)you're a low level, try a different planet. (ok, please say the devs to move the resource also!)

3)gotta log soon sorry.

4)what is mining for?

5)why can't you go yourself?

6)sorry too busy.

7)ok, lets go, I'll escort you (great! ... that guy logged out when I was 3k from the closest shuttle on lok)

8)sure, do you knowhow tobe Jedi?

9)Oh sorry I was afk. Where are you? (Me: in the cloning facility, thanks ...)

10)No, can you spare any credit (this from a lev18 medic)

11)I usually charge 10k for this service.

I'm going to write a book with answers like this, definately!

Scout 4000 gives Mask Scent. Saved my butt more times than I can count now. When I leared about this one I pushed through getting it. I was like you and got DB'ed evertime I went out to check my harvesters. I got really tired of the quick trip back to the Space port.....

I'd say Scout 4xxx is a must for any non/low combat level crafter/miner.

Get yourself a good combat droid. I have no combat at all, but a lvl 18 combat droid that blasts slumrat's andgnortsinto fresh meat.- it's even useful sometimes just to distract the mob away from my harvesters so I can get in, do what I have to do and get out. Also - use a speeder- stay on while you pay maint. or deposit power - Big help and lets you book when you get attacked. Scout is useful too when you get mask scent it's easy to get to your harvesters. Just make sure you can get away! (i.e. speeder or droid)

The best recommendation, as noted above, is to get scout 4xxx for mask scent. I have a master artisan/master architect/barely a novice rifleman. The combat skills don't accomplish much. I cleared one durni nest one time that was sitting on a high AL spawn, and even that took awhile (pre-CU). Except for one short time a few months ago when something evil and nasty was going on with the creature spawns (as in drop a spawn inside every harvester), you can mine with mask scent. I have mined on Lok and Yavin 4 successfully. Just don't buzz a kimoglia to see how well mask scent works, it does not work that well! Those snakes on Yavin 4 have still pulled mre right off my moving bike a few times. Endor and Dathomir are an entirely different matter, I'd recommend staying away from those planets. Don't mine around areas that are full of hunting groups, that is, mine Dant from the imp outpost or the agri outpost, the mining outpost is full of groups, so the area around the mining outpost is full of lairs. You can place harvesters, operate harvesters, and redeed them while mounted, no need to dismount. It's not just the level of the creature, some are naturally more aggressive. You can't place harvesters near lairs, so that will push you away from all the creatures anyway. But you can get close to pikets on dant usually.Using mask scent is how people milk them anyway without drawing a fight. So mask scent does work to sneak in for doing harvester runs.

Yeah.. CL 54 = Master swordsman and no other combat prof. at least we get full assult armor.lol.. But Dath is still a pain..

So groupping is still the way to go..

As to droids.. Check out the Droid Engenier Forums.. They would be able to tell you better then anyone here..

Best choice is grouping. But make sure they understand they cannot disban until you're in a safe spot.

ALSO, remember you can plant harvestors from your mount or vehicle now.

first off let me say... im a very experiance person.. and since CU ive learned even more : )

1, its all about avoidance. I make daily trips to the village ungrouped and im lvl 1. if your carefull you can explore any planet you like..

2, droping harvesters even on noob planets somtimes you get lucky but most times you need an escort, or a droid.. they can clear out lots of stuff.

3. Even at lvl 80 on dath you need help.. ive had to bring 3-4 people all lvl 80's to clear spawns. it just aint happening on dath

4, Think about smuggler, 0-0-4-0 you are lvl 30 which is nice and there is always feign and it fits right in with the whole crafter persona

Pffft. I don't need to "feign" death.

I just picked up master smuggler/master marksman. Throw in a 850dmg DL-44xt, concussion shot, lethal shot, last ditch, and feign death and it adds up to not much. But I am able to take on most mobs I encounter without armor. The NPC's on the other hand can be a bit of a pain.

But even I admit that my master artisian/master smuggler/master marksman template needs work. Im trying to pick up some pistoleer to improve my skills with that weapon. Raise my combat level another 4 points so I can actually use a deceint stim. And hopefully get access to some more powerfull attacks.

If your a pure crafter template the devs have already stated that your screwed. Sad really. I wanted so'ren to be a master artisian/shipwright. After getting two hit by a lvl 10 mob at my house on Talus of all places I quickly changed my mind on that one.
