Thread: Subjective Opinions Welcome

Way back when SWG first came out I was playing, but only for a short period of time. Naturally the game has changed a lot since then (not to mention that I knew little about it at that point anyway). I've been around other MMOs but now I find myself back here. Though I've only been playing now for less than a week I'm in love.

I've made a Human who is now an Expert Hairstylist. I've dabbled in Dancing as well and recently Surveying. Due to the social nature of my gameplay experience I decided that a crafting profession would be best suited to my tastes. What I would like are some subjective, but educated, opinions regarding which one I should go into. I understand that in SWG you can be anything, and change nearly anything if you get bored, but as a new player the cost of training in a profession makes it less of a light choice than it possibly could be for others.

I am highly interested in being an Artisan and have read up on Tailoring, Architecture, Droid Engineering, and Ship Wrights. I should also state that it will be a cold day in hell that I give up Expert Hairstylist. I'm a fickle person with the look of my chara and the ability to change her hair, make-up and eye color are nearly vital to my enjoyment of my playtime. Though dancing is fun I'm willing to give it up if I need to.

P.S. My good friend who I play with is going to be a pilot but has no other aspirations at the moment. I'm not sure if that would change the opinions given but there it is.

Thank you in advance for your time and statements.

If you enjoy the social aspect of the game, you may want to go full out and become a master image designer. Of all the entertainer professions, it's truly the most enjoyable (imo, anyway). Tailor compliments it well because you then have the ability to completely change the look of a person within a few minutes. You won't make a ton of money, but I've never had as much fun as the times when I'd sit in Coronet and image design people all day long. You really get to see all of the good and bad on your server, and the longer you keep at it, the more business you'll drum up.

Good luck in whatever you choose.

I have to agree and say tailor sounds like the best profession, as goes especially well with your like for hair styling. May I also suggest Architech, but focus on the interier desgining part of it. I know a lot of people who do this as it allows them to be very creative and if your good you can make decent money with it!

When I first started over a year ago.. I became a crafter right from the start..I've been aMaster Artisan till just recently

I dabbled in other professions but have always kept Master Artsian as my core skill.

I started slowly, I hand made items and sold them on the bazaar, others would power grind and waste tons of resources to get master as fast as they could..

I took a slower route and harvested my own resources with the little harvestors at first..while selling stuff on bazaar making some profits..my grind to Master was a lot slower, but much more profitable..I hated to waste resources..

Then the CU came, it borked powerups, so i switched temps to more of a combat class..

Then they sorta fixed powerups to where they are useful again with the right resources..

So..a guild bro asked me to help him with an alt that he did not have time to manage..

Now I have Master Artisan again with that alt...and I generate more credits with the alt then I do my main character.

that was my path ... your results may vary...

Thank you for the points. I'm tentatively thinking of Master Tailor, Master Dancer, and only Expert Hairstylist. Your input to take Master Tailor helped swing me in that direction, which I'm highly grateful for. While Image Design is a wonderful profession I do not currently feel that the points spent in it to achieve the master level would be conducive to my enjoyment of SWG.

Appreciative,

As your going for the social aspect of the game then Master Tailor & Master Image Designer is a very good combo as long as you don't mind working with you clients, you can create them snazzy outfits and then give them a makeover so that they match what you've just made. It is a good choice and does work for many players (see the ID forums) and its fun You might also want to consider some merchant skills so that you can run a stocked vendor from which to seel your tailored clothing.

It's a fun game and there is a lot to do, it can be frustrating at times but the rewards that can be had are very good.

Also, in favor of going the ID/tailor route, if money is a concern, just know that even on a relatively unpopulated server, I was able to make anywhere from 500k-900k per day in IDing alone. You get the occasional cheapskate who runs off and never pays, but then you get the people who appreciate what you do, and understand that you've chosen to play one of the few professions who's sole purpose is to make other players happy, and they tip well. Sure, you don't get the cantina chatter all day long, but you do get to see a lot of great duels and meet a ton of awesome people.

If you just want to dabble, then Shipwright is not for you. It is *very* resource intensive. It takes over 6 million of various resources if you just want to grind to master. And even after you are a master the individual parts take 5-6000 resources, plus specific requirements.

Tailor for the most part doesn't depend on any specific resources, or qualities. If you can get Bio-Engineer stuff, you can still make some pretty good clothing with stat adds (if they ever fix that).

/agree. tailors do use a lot of hides, but most things it doesn't matter what kind of hide. so put out the word to your friends that you need hides and you'll probably get enough to set you up for a long time. i was grinding combat hardcore for 2 days last week, and gavea 50k stacks of hides each to 2 different tailor friends and they both said it might last them forever.

i was working on dancer and a bit of tailor way back when i picked up chef. i'm a chatty person and i mentioned that in cantinas and people brought me all kinds of things to help out with that. milk, eggs, crystalline cloth treatments for the tailor schematic clothes, i got some *very* interesting tips. that to me was part of the fun, that it turned out to be a community effort, and i get the feeling you'll enjoy that part of it as much as i did.

good luck!
