I just mastered artisan and can now make a bunch of new stuff...
Question is...how do you harvest in space...Like the barc speeder repair kit requires astroid resources, how do you get them...Someone told me you have to have a mining ship and to get that you have to be an ace pilot...is this right?
Thanks for your help!!

There's a good guide to the quest and the actual mining in the Shipwright forum. But, the highpoints are, you need to have ROTW, a mining laser, and a cargo hold in your starship. If you do the first couple of steps in the quest, you get those for free. Theoretically you can do the quest at any level, but you'd need a lot of help if you're not at least a tier 3 pilot. The actual Y-8 Mining vessel needs to have an ace pilot to fly it, but you can use any other starship for mining as well.

depends on your weapon mounts and mass. If you have the mass allowance for a cargo hold then you can add it no problem. As for the weapon mounts you would like to have at least 2 so that you can keep a weapon for fighting off the asteroid bandits and one for the mining laser. Either that or an escape macro and one weapon slot.

The starter, starter TIE, that you get from a recruiter, TTBMOK doesn't have either slots or the mass for adding a cargo hold. You *could* use a mining laser as your only weapon, but it's not that great of a weapon. Also the lasers have equipment cert levels as well, so a x1xx pilot could probably only use a MkI or MkII laser.

Actually I think the answer to this is ... No.
If the starter Tie Fighter is like any other starter ship, it cannot be modified in any way (except for paint, which Tie Fighters cannot be modified in anyway.)
This may be different for Imperial Starter ships, I do not know as I went Freelance... however, I think it probably is fair to assume that to be true.
