Dunno if anyone has suggested it, but what do you think of a refining tool? Have it based on say.. artisan experimentation to dictate how much/which attribute it would improve of a load of resource. Have it also on a progressive scale - say 90% effective to raise a load of 100 OC to 200, 80% to raise 200 to 300, etc... on up so that it's very likely to destroy a load of 800 trying for 900, and almost impossible to raise 900 to 1000...

Just my 2 bits...

There IS such a thing as too many Jedi - if this were an old west game, you might think it was odd to walk into a saloon and see 20 Ulysses S Grants loitering around and engaging in slapfights

This was discussed a while back when the Miner profession was being proposed. It was hot for a while and then it died. I'm not sure what happened, but pretty sure the devs probably shot it down. Why? Refinement of course. The devs are big into game balance. If you add refinement, you have to add something equal for all professions. That's how the devs think and spoiled classes like CH and Pistoleer whine.

Is it a good idea? I think if you had a Miner profession yes. Is it good for Artisan? Not really. Artisans to me are nothing more than a college grad with an Associate's. It means little. Go for the Master's. Take an elite profession. This would maybe fit in Master Artisan, but not before. And it would definately raise arguments with the other professions.
