I'm a medic. I need a whole buch of resources to make the pharmacuticals that heal wounded combatants. I just don't have time to go and 'sample' for them. So I saved up and spent the 3,000 credits to buy me a mineral harvester. THen I went to the spot where I do my sampling, clicked away on the Deed and was told

"Building is not permitted here"

So, can someone PLEASE tell me what the restrictions are? I've searched the boards, and if it's covered I can't find it. If you know where the info is, link me, you don't need to repeat it.

After CU I stuck it out because my guild friends were still here, the good was good enough and the bad could be worked around.
With NGE:
  • My guildies hated it so much they quit
  • They nerfed my uniquness
  • They nerfed my ability to role play
  • They nerfed my strategic combat
  • They disregarded Star Wars canon
  • As a level 80 smuggler, I have out dueled every level and every profession. Only beated since NGE by a level 90 Bounty Hunter.

You have to 1000 m froma city. And find a good high % source. When you get that message, you are too close in and you need to go farther back.

Actually, it is more like 1200-1400 meters outside the city depending. It can be really aggravating to be standing on a 90% spot only to be told that you can't build there, but I understand why it is. Usually you can get a pretty good field and not suffer too much in moving a little further out. It will shift again in a week regardless.

The placement of harvesters seems almost random, as far as the zones in which you may place them. Certain cities will let you place them a mere 600m from the perimeter, whereas it takes almost 900m for others. The only way in which we know whether or not a desired location will give us the particularly feared "Building is not premitted here" message is to actually try and use a deed.

It is time-consuming and ludicrous to have to simply guess where we can and can not place harevsters, especially knowing how often resources shift in this game.

In real-life, anyone can go to the city zoning or urban planning office down at city hall, and be shown a map of where they can or can not build. Why can't we either have maps at the guild halls, or even better, datapad maps which show the green and red areas of "build" and no-build" zones, respectively?

I believe they should lay down a red or yellow grid for a no build zone, when you are in the overhead view to place a harvester. A map isn't really necessary, just know that you must be X meters from the edge of town before you can build.

How about a special view of the planet map (CTRL-V) that shows the areas, so you know if you are in a buil/no-build zone? Also, there are areas closer in which allow building, and farther out you cant...and what about proximity to lairs and such?

There should a zoning overlay map so we know where to attempt it, and what is offlimits.

Well, as you leave a city you get a message along the lines of "You have now left Coronet." At that point, while you can't build a house, factory or harvester you CAN camp. Why not, then, have a second message along the lines of "You have now left the Coronet building authority."?

I agree it needs to be addressed.

Is there a gauranteed safe distance from the city? like 1,000m ?

Warrens or dens can also get in the way of placing harvesters, and will give you the "cannot build here" message. If you destroy the den, you can then build there.

Don't let the negative AFKophobes get you down. Play the game however you want.

Is the beta testing almost over for this game?

Also try standing still for about 5 seconds before clicking on the deed. I always get a can't place harvestor while running. Or something like that

If you're near a den, it will bring you to the overhead map, but the area around the den will be yellow and you can't place there.

If you were moving, you'll get a "Cannot place building in your current state" message. Stand still for a few seconds and try again.

If you get the "Building not permitted here" message then either you're too close to town or you're near a POI. Yes, that's right, there's a ~500m radius around POIs that's unbuildable. Really pisses me off too. I found a great ~90% spot of aluminum out near the ancient krayt skeleton. By the time I was far enough from the skeleton to build, it had dropped off to 70%. It seems that lately, the really hot spots for minerals have been popping up in the middle of player cities or right on top of POIs.
