I have tried to create a new character as an Artisan and I have found it is impossible to master the profession as I cant get any AP. Is this common for new artisans?

This all depends on if your only skill is Artisan. True Gaining AP can be a nightmare especially with all the spammers around certain times around the starports. Ive now taken to getting my AP in various ways at various times. They are as follows in the order too.

1. Started out with no AP so started shouting at starports to no avail.

2. Offered to pay them for me teaching them a new skill. This was ok for a while but then everyone tries to out do the other so the prices of buying AP is stupid.

3. Joined the servers very late on when most of the Kids or trouble makers are of the server and gained a lot of AP and some good conversations from other masters. If you do happen to venture on at the early hours of the morning Iike I, you will see more masters and above than novices on.

4. Lastly rather than use my AP on artisan I decided to grind at Marksmen and master that first. Now during the day I go on hunts with novices and teach them and in the evening I can teach anyone that passes for a few AP here and there.

What does it cost me now? I still tip those that come to me when I do the odd shout here and there and those that ask me because they see Im a master I gladly teach them and offer advice and a few freebies to keep them going. That was the best advice i could get was dont be afraid to give things away because people remember you for it......

Now. Ive enough AP to get me through a lot of the trades if needed that I dont teach for the AP but to teach for the joy of it.

Good luck in your quests...

I dont see why Trainers should have to pay to train people or vice versa, especially if they need the skill. i must admit i did trade 9k of wind for 100 ap points but he dident actually need the skills.

why must we pay to train someone when if we couldnt teach they would have to pay an npc 5k for the same service.

Well im just frustrated i suppose becasue ive been trying all weekend to get master artisan and im still 80 app points short.

rant over

So where is the problem?

Go find a friend with the same issue - then become NOVICE SCOUT both and join a hunt for harvesting only (ppl will be glad to have bigger group for more payout ESPECIALLY when have no intention to make combat XP).

Learn Scout 0030 (Hunting 3) on the one hand adn Scout 1030 (Explore1 and Hunting 3)on the other. Then both cap their Scout Xp at 30000.

After that You should teach each other Exploration 30 times = 600 APP

Time estimated to do this: 1 - 2 hours for the first 600 APP, 30 minutes for the rest (640).

All You need is a compagnion and 26 Skillpoints left.

Well AP should not be hard to come by if you just played a regular game. If you're in a hurry, I can see why it would be hard. For any profession I've mastered, I've had the AP by the time I got to the master skillbox. I never had to go out and shout either, it just comes naturally when you play a normal game. In the beginning, pre-holo, I had capped my AP and still kept on training. AP is not that hard to come by.

I have to admit I found the AP painfully slow too being solely Artisan. Another method would be to find someone who is also needed AP, you'll probably see others shouting for training which is where you can send them a /tell. Find out what skills etc. they have so you can trade AP. I got 600 AP by both of us picking up Novice Marksman. We both went out and did a few missions, training and dropping a level one skill each time. Its only 1000 xp to get a level one box so a couple of kills gets you there. Took a couple of hours to get the 600AP, you could sit outside the spaceport for a couple of hours and not get that. Worth a shot.

Part of the problem (if you want to call it that) is that 4-4-4-4 artisan can be obtained so quickly (Assuming you let your character sample overnight for the survey exp.). Once you hit 3-0-0-X you can max out the rest of the trees in just an hour or two practicing harvestors. To master even a starter proffession like marksman, brawler, or scout you're going to spend a lot more time out and about around other people who need training.

I'm 4-4-4-3 at the moment and about 3/4 of the way towards Surveying 4. I've not used any macros or afk'ing for the surveying tree as I've just accumulated points as I've been tending to my harvestors and extractors. Trouble is, I've only gained about 100 AP whilst I've been working on Artisan skills so I'm well short of the 650 required.

I am either going to have to start on another profession that will get me out and about more and gain the AP that way, or sit outside the starport for the next week or so and pray.

Can you buy/trade AP points?????
