Thread: Warning for Harvester Owners and Workaround

I've found that if you just turn the harvester off then on again you can save yourself a little time. I power cycle my harvesters everytime I pay maintenance, deposit power or retrieve resources to make sure everything registers properly. If it looks like the harvester is still running even though the resource has shifted, it won't come on again when you try and turn it back on.

An easier way to check is if the resource percentage on the operate machinery screen is 0%. That should tip you off that even though the lines are still going, the resource is no longer there.

There is yet another bug to watch out for. It's gotten me a couple of times but there is a workaround.

When retrieving your resources from harvesters,you might be in a hurry. You open the manage screen and it shows the resource still there and by all appearences the harvester is still running. It has the moving lines that indicate the machine is still running. Then you open the hopper, grab what you have harvested, close it because you are in a hurry,after all the harvester is still running, right? WRONG!

Lately, since the last update, I have been seeing the operating lines still moving and the name of the resource I was harvesting still listed on the manage screen. The exact same on each and every harvester I have running the same resource. They all seem to still be running, and each shows the name of the resource I WAS extracting. No, I didn't check my tool, but why would I need to, after all, it still shows on the manage screen. Well, this is a bug that has cost me time when I could have been moving my harvester or simply changing resources on the spot. I come back the next day, or two days later for distant planets and what do I find? Nothing in my harvester at all! It had fooled me into thinking it was still running, and the resource was still there. But it was NOT!

Workaround. Don't be in a hurry. Simply keep the resource retrieval screen open a while to see your harvester extract just 1 more of the resource. Then you know for a fact that at least at that moment the resource is still being extracted. If it won't pull another resource when it should, goopen the change resource screen then close it, the name of the resource disappears from the manage screen, and from all the other harvesters you have pulling the same resource.

I have already reported this bug via /bug. Before someone closes this thread, I am only passing the workaround along to fellow artisans, not reporting a bug.

I've had encounters with my harvesters where the resource was listed at the concentration I found it at, then power cycled the harvester and had the resource be revealed as 0%. The concentration % isn't always displayed properly and the best way I've found to refresh all of the harvester's statistics is the power cycle.

this "feature" has been around for a while.

Suggestion:

use a macro with the following commands

\HarvesterDeActivate;
\pause .2;
\HarvesterActivate;
\structurestatus;

Use this macro whenever you drive up to your harvestor. This should give you an accurate display of your status and when you open "Operate" accurate inforamtion also.
