What is the best item for a noob to craft for maximum XP??

wind survey devices.
People will tell you that once you get to Eng 3 you should make wind power generators. And while these people are correct in saying they give more xp per item crafted and itll go faster that way, if you stick it out and just make the survey tools you will be saving money because the survey tools have the best xp per unit of resource. So you can do it fast and expensive or save your money and take your time.

since it sounds like you are grinding and with the impending revamp coming.... go fast and expensive (its not that costly) and with the wind generators you should be done in like 3 hours at the most.

What revamp? the one that got shot down a couple of weeks ago?
I also suggest crafting tools for a couple of reasons. One, they're easy and give decent XP and two, they always sell well on the bazaar. Make a variety of them and stick them on the bazaar for 200 credits each and you'll see that they'll move. People grinding other crafting professions with a macro need multiple crafting tools to accumulate XP as quickly as possible. The quality of the tools doesn't matter very much in that case. Why not make a little money back as you're grinding your way through artisan?
