So a buddy of mine has no need for his lots. He agrees to let me put my house and 2 factories on his lots as they were intended to be static. And that is working fine but my question is this: My factories (2) cost 100 cr an hour together plus power usage. Im a Master Smuggler and Master Artesian and the factories get used like once or twice a week, is the cost per hour listed under STATUS while the factory is running, idle or at all times? It doesnt seem cost effective to keep them up if there gonna cost that much.

Also do different qualities of factories eefect the costs to run them?

Factories cost mantiance for anytime that you have them placed. Power is only used when it is running.

Isn't it better just to plop down a factory when you're ready for a run, rather than paying maintenance to keep it around idle for a week or two?

It depends on how often you use it. You need to pay a re-deed cost to pull it back up. If you use your factory 1 day out of 2 weeks, definatly cheeper to re-deed. If you run your factory 4 or 5 days a week, might as well just let it sit.

also, you can use your Input Hopper for additioanl storage . That's why I leave my factory "running".
