I was just wondering I have 3,2,2,3 in artisan and I am trying to get engineering 4 but I can't seem to get enough xp. I thought that harvester making would get you lots but it only got me about 400. Can someone tell me what to craft in order to get engineering 4?

You are already on the right track. I did the engineer tree from novive artisan straight up to Novice wepaonsmith in like 2 hours with the resources already gathered and macros for crafting.
I started grinding with weapon powerups, with 6 mineral and 4 chem in each. Did that till engineer 2. I'mm 99% sure I ground something else till level 3 when you get the wind harv schematic. Then wind harvs (on practice mode) through level 4 and on to novice whatever.
Here's the style of crafting macro I used throughout:
This macro uses 4 crafting stations in Slots 3,4,5,6 and the macro command in Slot 1. Just repeat the pattern 1 more time per additional crafting station. With the below macro, once it is started, all you have to do is click the resources. My pause (resource selecting time) went as low as 4 seconds for wepaon upgrades and as high as 7 seconds for the wind harvs.
/ui action toolbarSlot03;
/selectDraftSchematic 00; (This number will be different for you!)
/pause 5; (This is where you double click to put in resources)
/nextcraftingstage; (Replace "/nextcraftingstage;" with just "/next;" if you have problems)
/nextcraftingstage;
/createprototype practice no item;
/createprototype practice no item;

I think I made mostly fireworks until engineering 3, and el cheapo harvestors after that on practice mode- never really did much "grinding" per se, mostly because it was still early in the game and I was still playing around with all the different stuff you can make. Mastered artisan mostly through making stuff that I used, like the food and fireworks.

What is the best item to grind general crafting experience. I need to try and finish quickly.
Also do you get crafting experience when using a factory?

I did survey tools up to eng 3, then personal harvesters for the rest. No xp from factories.
