Anyone know how to use or know of a good article on Survey Droids?

They're pretty straightforward.
Click "Use" on the radial menu of the survey droid stack in your inventory. Pick the planet you want to send it to. Then you'll see a list of survey tools in your main inventory (it doesn't search through packs). Pick one that matches the type of resources you want to look for.
The droid will "use up" the survey tool, and take off for the planet you specified. After a period of time (usually around 45m) you'll get back an email of the resource listing for that planet.
There's also a focus thread on the survey droids in the DE forum from when the "Droids rebuilt" publish hit live. You can read through that here:

Save your credits and go to www.swgcraft.com
You'll get better resource data than the droid will provide you.

survey droids are used like this:
1. You must have Novice Artisian to use it.
2. Click on the droid and select the planet you want the droid to survey.
3. Click on the survey tool you want the droid to use on it's survey mission. * You will not get this survey tool back*
4. You can send out multiple survey droids as fast as you can click your mouse and if you have the survey tools. Survey tools can now be used directly out of a factory crate instead of being called out of the crate first.
5. You don't have to stay logged on in order to get the droid's email report. What you get back is a listing of all the found resources on the planet. You do not get any waypoints at this time with them. Ask a DE on your server for a sample email from a previous search to see what you'd get.
SWGcraft.com is based on Player Submissions. It does not auto-update with the servers. There are some spawns that never get reported there.
I hope this helps you out.

You will not receive any stats on the resources. You only get the resource type and the specific name.
I find it useful for seeing if something has quit spawning on a particular planet, or if a particular type of mineral has started spawning.
