Hey all,
The question thread for this was here:
Our Dev Question for 6/9/2004
Our question has been answered:
Artisan
Artisan Mission fixes/enhancements: Artisan mission provide much needed income to crafters just getting started. We would like to see some changes/fixes in them. First, currently Artisan mission’s difficulty level scales with combat ability, not crafter ability. This requires the crafter to either be good at combat or to group with someone good at combat to increase their mission credit and XP payout. Artisan missions should scale on crafting skill in the same manner that destroy missions scale on combat skill. Can these any of these ideas and fixes be implemented?
Yes, these things can be implemented. The question is “when”. There are two main factors in play here. The first is that when trying to advance the cause of any profession, my first reference is the top 5 list. If the items listed here are truly a top 5 item, then it needs to be on that list so that when the opportunity arises, I have significant community input to demonstrate that this is indeed a top issue and that it is on the Artisan’s top issue report. The second item in play is that the GCW revamp is going to touch all professions to some degree and that work is going to come before any other changes. Any *major* changes will be considered after the Jump to Lightspeed.

So is this a *major* change we'll have to wait until after JTL?

I expected this kind of answer. At least they're being straightforward about it, sort of admitting it's a problem, and giving us a timetable.
I think this should go on the top 5 list as requested by the devs but that it should NOT replace the "hard look at resource-related issues" one on that list.
Good question, Guruweaver. May I ask that you add in some of my comments in the question thread if you think they are applicable and along your line of thinking when putting a version of the question in the top 5?

Now I am absolutely convinced that TH is absolutely and completely full of it from the tips of his toenails to the top of his clodpate.
I call BS on this one.
It's been about 6 months since I finished my stint as the Artisan Correspondent - At the time I left, this issue had been on his plate for MONTHS!!!
This is the kind of thing that should have been addressed in a class review - WHICH WE WERE PROMISED AFTER VEHICLES WENT LIVE!
Now, I understand that the vast majority of players could care less about Artisans, and their elite counterparts - but to be completely ignored by the devs, and then to be told that they can't begin anything until someone puts it on the list of the day - NO MATTER HOW MANY LISTS IT HAS BEEN ON IN THE PAST, is absolutely craptacular.
This is an unacceptable answer, and it isa LIEthat the devs have not known about this issue for nearly a year. It was in the only post that I as a correspondent KNOW TH read (the universal issue post - that would be the one that TH personally thanked me for when I quit my position).
So what do you have to say about that TH??????????

Pardon me for choosing to use your post to dump on, but the spirit moved me...
With all of the changes coming, particularly as to how Force Sensitivity relates to crafting, I've been seriously considering dropping master chef, master architect and master artisan on my alt to take up combat skills simply to become "force sensitive" to be able to continue to compete. I was only assuming combat would be required, but this thread re-inforces that assumption. Sad part is I can barely compete now because I don't have the "barracuda mentality" to collect skill tapes to be a 12 pt this or that. And force sensitivity only adds to that.
I don't craft because I want to be a bajillionaire so I can sell credits on e-bay, I craft because I like helping people. Isn't that one of the goals the SWG designers strive for? Player interaction? How the hell are we supposed to have time to interact as crafters if we're so freakin' busy trying to be the best of the best just to survive?
/offStump
I don't think the devs will ever get it.
