Thread: Crafting Generic Crafting Tools
Generic crafting tools are unique in that you can't experiment on them. The reason for this is that there is no crafting station associated with generic crafting tools and generic crafting tools can only be made with other generic crafting tools. If you didn't follow the previous sentence try reading it again and hopefully it will make sense. ![]()
Anyway, yes, it is possible to experiement on other crafting tools. Use your generic crafting tool to make a Weapon/Droid crafting tool (you won't be able to experiment on this one), use your Weapon/Droid tool to make another Weapon/Droid tool, but this time stand next to a Weapon/Droid crafting station so that you can experiment on it. After that you can delete your generic tool as well as your low quality Weapon/Droid tool and use your good Weapon/Droid tool to make high quality versions of any other crafting tool you might need.
The max level of effectiveness for any crafting tool is 15.00.
Good luck!

Ok, I don't even want to know how you figured that out... lol.Just be careful doing that. I'm quite sure that falls within the devs definition of an exploit.
In general, it's pretty pointless. Yes, this technique lets you experiment on any item that can be made with a Generic Crafting Tool. But everything else can already be experimented on using the relevant tool and station! I've also found that, while you can make a factory schematic this way, my Equipment Factory wont accept it.

Actually, it is possible to experiment on an Generic tool, in a weird roundabout way. Stand next to a crafting station, and have a crafting tool of that type in your inventory. Start your generic tool and select the schematic to make another generic tool. Now open your inventory, select your other type crafting tool and open an 'examine' window on it. Switch back to the generic crafting tool, add resources and assemble. You should see the experiment option now. My best guess is that you are 'piggybacking' on the experimentation of that other tool.
