Thread: Sample Macro: A Question of Ethics
Is using a Sample Macro an exploit? The functionality is built into the game, so go for it, but it also seems very much like the kind of thing other MMORGPs have tried to crack down on and prevent from happening. Any thoughts on the matter?

It's not technically an exploit but it's screwing up the commodity market for resources. See my previous post that addresses how to clean up the macro issue without totally nerfing the ability to sample. I seriously get frustrated when I need to get a sample just to check a resource's stats and its takes five sampling attempts to get a sample for analysis to determine it its worth placing a harvester.

There's nothing wrong with the "tool" it's the "use" to which some people put it that is wrong.
If you use the macro just to save you some keystrokes while you are playing the game doing other things (chatting, crafting etc.) it's not a problem.
If you use it when you would normally be offline (sleeping, running to the store, eating dinner, going to work, etc.) then you have crossed the line. Unattended connection to the servers is against the rules.
