Thread: Resource Location Questions
Over on the Tarquinas board a CSR verified that some resources exist in the galaxy that have not been found yet.
Has anyone done experimenting along the following lines:
1. Are the resources the same all over a planet or do they shift as you move about the planet?
2.If they do shift approximately how big is a resource area? Or does that vary per resource?
Thanks in advance to all responces. Just a humble fighter trying to get my weaponsmiths the proper resources.
There are times when resources shift, but after they do, they are supposed to remain stable for 5-8 days. There are bugs in this system, but presumably when the bugs arefixed, we'll see the system operate as designed.
The concentration of resources seems to vary by resource type. Some resources, like steel, seem to have high concentrations over small areas of land. Others, like ore and wind, seem to have lower concentrations spread out over larger areas.
Thank you for the reply, perhaps I wasn't clear enough.
When I start my mineral surveying device, I get a list of minerals I can survey for. Is that list dependent on what planet I am on? What region of the planet I am on? Perhaps it varies by the mineral.
For instance, perhaps Zooranium (a made-up name) Copper is available on every planet during a given resource period. Perhaps Thutiumior Steel is only available on one or two planets during that same period. My assumption was that if I was on a planet that had either of these resources, no matter where on the planet I was, the resource would show up on my survey device. Even if the concentration of that resource was too low and I returned a result of 'you fail to find a concentration of that mineral', that particular resource would show on the list of minerals I can survey for.
Now, what I'm trying to figure out is if Zooranium exists, on say Tatooine, is it possible that if I survey in Mos Eisley and that Zooranium shows up on my list of resources to look for, but if I'm in Anchorhead, is it possible that Zooranium won't even show up on my list of resources to be surveyed?
If that happens, do the resources that you can survey for change every 5km? Every 10km? Every 1km? I simply haven't looked for stuff in a big enough area to know.
The main reason I ask, is that a CSR said that several resources exist in a particular galaxy that have not been found yet. If simply by flying to all ten planets and opening up the survey device would give you a list of all the possible resources then I find the CSR's statement difficult to believe.
However, if there is a range per planet and possibly per resource I'm curious to know what, if any research and experimentation has been done to this end.
I could be wrong Heorot, but I think the CSR person is refering to known resources typesfor a galaxy not having spawned yet.
Such as on Kauri, there has been no Ditanium spawns as far as I know--it's required for building Binary Load lifters. Ditanium exists as a resource type, but has not spawned yet.
My understanding is that resources are specific to a planet, and do not vary. They only vary between planets.
On Bloodfin the resources do the 5-10 day cycle (start to drop off after about 5-6 days) then come back in en mass after 8-10 days (atleast minerals and chemicals do). I can confirm for you that there are some variations by planet. As I have moved between some planets, there seems to be about 75-80% the same with one or two new ones popping up here and there. I haven't moved across all the planets in our galaxy, but there is small variation among a few.
As for variation on a given planet, I have not seen it myself and I do a lot of mining to support my crafting. I have had one PA member tell me he has seen small variation on our planet, but I haven't been able to confirm it myself.
If there was variation on a given planet, I'm not sure how it would work. Clearly things show up when you open the crafting device that you can't survey or sample in a pretty broad radius.
What has been the experience on other servers regarding mineral and chemcial variations from planet to planet? On Bloodfin, I've been pretty disappointed in that variation. There hasn't been much reason to pick up and move after a resource rotation. Maybe I'm not traveling far enough.
