Thread: XP from a factory?

I've recently bought a wearables factory in order to gain some general crafting experience while I do other things. The question I have is this, does it matter what type of item is being produced in the factory? Do I get more experience for difficult items, like when I craft by hand?

This doesn't seem to be the case. I made a ton of Fiberplast panels and seemed to get the same amount of experience for them as the items I later used them to make (via the factory.) It seems like there is a set, 1xp per {time period} if a factory is running.

Also, I noticed an Industrialist exp pop up. Anyone have any idea what that's used for? I've got 45 points of it now.....

Factories give 10% of XP for items produced. The time it takes for a factory to produce an object is complexity X 8. XP isn't determined by complexity but by the resources used, 2/resource. So something that takes 300 resources will grant you 600 XP. Complexity is just there for determination of time to create, crafting tool required, and type of crafting station-if any.

Industrialist XP is a remnant of Beta. Like the Miner it was taken out rather late and they forgot to weasel out the XP code, or are leaving it in incase they decided to bring it back I guess.

Frellin Edit button would be lovely...

On the XP example I gave... 300 resouces giving 600 XP. That's hand crafted, a factory would grant you 60 XP. Just wanted to clear that up. Noticed it was left open to a bit of interpretation before.

Ahhh...so, in the long run, I'd make more xp from a factory creating 100 Administrator Robes then a factory creating 100 Fiberplast panels. It will just take longer for the factory to make the 100 robes though because they have a much higher complexity.

That being the case, if I can mass produce thousands of Fiberplast panels in the same time it takes to make 100 or so robes, wouldn't I be better off making the fiberplast panels? I'd be getting more experience for them when you only take time into consideration.

My harvester is sitting on a 89% fiberplast spot so I can mine thousands of fiberplast a day....might be better for me to make the simple things if all I really want is the exp from them....

Well yes and no...

If you're not worried about only getting 10% of the XP I say why not, but if you're after XP handcrafting is the way. I assume since you're after GCXP "while doing other things" and you're using Home Ec schematics you're either a tailor or chef and want to concentrate on that profession (then again when you assume something we all know what you do) or are just off killing stuff for fun and profit.

Before they reset the factory XP to 10% that's the tactic many of the elite crafting masters used. In weaponsmithing they'd load up a few (10) factories with projectile pistol barrels and watch the XP roll in. At 90 XP a pop and complexity of 5 it was fast and easy as long as you had a few friends gathering your resources and supplying the cash to keep things running.
