Can anyone explain how, when and why resources change galaxies?

At least that is what I'm being told, and it seems to be true...

Yes, the resources shift.

How do they shift? The DEVs tell it to shift and it does.

When do they shift? Current thought says every 5-7 days, but it has been reported as being more frequent. 5-7 seems to be my experience so far on Wanderhome.

Why do they shift? From what I can tell, it's so that people don't hunker down on a rich deposit and stay there forever, having a monopoly on large amounts of high grade resources. Also, keeps you on your toes. No plunking down a harvester, filling it with a month of maint and power, and gathering tens of thousands of resources.
