I have seen many messages saying mining for Minerals should not be done unless there is at least a 70-80% concentrationof the mineral at that location.

Is the same true for Flora? For example, if I wish to harvest Lok Wild Wheat, should I keep surveying until I find a spot with a 70-80% concentration of it, or do Flora resources tend to occur at lower concentrations than Mineral resources? i.e. would a 30-40% concentration be the best I could expect for a Flora resource?

Also, can a Surveying II character hope to find anything, or is surveying an excercise in frustration unless your character has at least Surveying IV ?

Could anyone provide me with a good algorithm on how to move about a planet to survey for Flora or Mineral resources? Is there some method by which you can zero in on large concentrations in a systematic way, instead of just wandering about aimlessly and hoping for the best as you survey?

I've been working my way up through the Surveying skills (not grinding) and I've never had a problem finding resources. Higher survey level just means a little quicker pinpointing of the sweetspot and higher volume when sampling. Having a speeder helps tremendously.

Here's what I've been doing; after performing a survey, look to see if the percentage increses are gradual (0-1% increments) or dramatic (3-5% increments).

If it's gradual, you'll need to travel pretty far so head toward the survey waypoint and keep walking past it about 2-3 times the distance before performing another survey. Repeat until you've reached a point where it doesn't increase anymore. If you do this 2 or 3 times and you're still getting very minor increases (and numbers betweeen 35%-55%), or the numbers start going down, chances are you're not going to find a sweetspot higher than the low 60's or you've already passed it.

If it's dramatic, walk past the way point about 1/2 the distance and perform another survey. The dramatic increases will usually have a sweetspot nearby and you'll find it more quickly that way.

One thing you can also do is perform a sample when the percentage is relatively low. Then you can look at the stats of the resource before you go through all the trouble of finding a high concentration of it. What I've been finding is that it doesn't matter where on the planet you find a resource, the stats remain the same. This goes for animal resources as well.

For example, it doesn't matter what kind of herbivore you kill, all herbivore meat on the planet will have the same stats. Just like if you find Phrik Aluminum, it doesn't matter where you go on the planet, the stats of the Phrik Aluminum will be the same.

I'm not sure if this is true in every case but from my observation so far, it has.
