Thread: Our Question Answered 5/5/04
They have posted the answer to our question as of 5/5/04:
Artisan
What steps are being taken to make Master Artisan a more valued and unique profession, whether it be through harvester bonus/certifications or through more valuable items (not including any items in the upcoming JTL expansion)?
There are no current plans to further enhance Master Artisans at this point. We gave Master Artisans the ability to craft vehicles and vehicle customization kits in the Vehicle Publish. Going forward, there are other master boxes that should be enhanced, but this is only a guideline. Whenever any opportunity comes up to improve a profession, we certainly will. The way this would happen is if during the course of development, a new object was made and we needed to place the cert, we’d look at the opportunity and put it in. Again, let me emphasize that with the GCW revamp, all professions will be touched and gameplay will be enhanced. I’ll be putting up some In Concept threads in early to mid June on this topic to get your feedback.

Enjoy,
As a fellow master artisan I can only think of on profession that should become attached to the top of master artisan... and it should be fought for left and right during the beta of JTL...
Shipwright should be Connected to master artisan, as I can see all the componets being used by the shipwrights...
Plus engineering has enough trees branching off of it..
Seems to me that they should revamp Artisan and give them the ability to make Clothing, Works of Art, and publish datadisk books and other fluf... and then just build a seprate Novice Engineer that is suposed to branch off into the other elite professions..
So it would look like this
Tree one - Basic Weapons and Armor: witch branches into Weaponsmith and Armorsmith
Tree two - Basic Electronics and Vehicles: Witch would branch into DE and be a requirement for Shipwright
Tree three - Basic Structures and Adv. Electronics: Witch would branch into Arch. and Shipwright
Tree four - Survey and Minnerology: Survey Tree as it is now..

hmmm - to be honest, Artisan is a basic profession and not an elite profession, and I think we already have a good line in supplying other elite professions with useful components that they need.
I can't see any other basic profession being any where near as useful as us to any elite professions in terms of meeting a dependency.
As for JTL .... I expect the shipwright to stem from engineering 4, mainly because chef/tailor/merchant type crafting doesn't really apply (IMO of course !!).
It would be really nice if they added extra subcomponents into Master Artisan, and possible tailor (leather upholstery in your YT1300 sir ?) - you can imagine numerous subcomponents which are needed across the board for a space craft - I expect these to be obscenely complicated to craft and have a number of dependencies on all sorts of professions :-)
Anyway - I shall be keeping Master Artisan for long time to come and dropping Architect to become a shipwright. :-D (I can't wait !! lol)
Just to respond to the last post i could easily see shipwright being linked to Master Artisan.
Engineering: To make the ship actually work.

Merchant: Need to e able tonegotiate fair prices with shipyards and engineering bays to be able toconstruct teh ships and store them.
Survey: Nobody without top surveying skills should be allowed to have that many resources to build a ship.
