Thread: Has anyone else noticed that armor is crap?
What is the point? Armor affords you very little protection and eats your HAM pools like a stoned boar. With a ful suit of bone you get a measly 20% reisist to energy. You also get about 400 of your action pool eaten, about 150 health, and some mind(armor effects thinking?). So now you are better protected, but if anything hits you in the legs, you go down like Hollywood callgirl. Better armor eats even more of your pools than that. To top it all off, the only armor that is worth having is only slightly more effective that your birthsuit. Mebari(sp?) offers no more than 5% resist in any category. I feel guilty selling this stuff to people.
Ok, anyway, someone tell me that I glanced over some huge factor that makes armor worth wearing.
Bone armor will get better when people find bones with malleability higher than 40 (tattoine sucks for bones) Since the pools drains are based off of OQ and Mall. As for other armors, im not sure, but over time, i bet with high qual resources and higer level armorsmiths, armor will end up being useful for certain groups of people.
It also depends on how the armorsmith builds the armor. There are ways to lower the HAM costs, but a LOT of Artisans are grinding XP and putting crappy armor out on the bazaars.
Also, the armor will get better as better armorsmiths start popping up.
it's true it is all about who makes it, from time to time I check the bazaar to see if I made a nice piece of armor and I am not sure if I have exceptional skill or people are just throw'n up junk
today with only half the right % on my ingredients I crafted Bone boots that had 21% for Energy resitance, and hardly took of the pools down.
It's all about the ingredients.
That said, put on a full suit of mabari armour, run out find the nearest white con creature mob, open your combat window and let it come hit you. The combat window tells you how much is mitigated each hit by your armour. With mabari armour, just one pice (say gloves), that claim only 5% kinetic resistance, any hit to your hands is mitigated by 50%. Mabari armour is awesome, a full suit of it means you take about 40% less damage than with full bone armour (againt creatures), since some hits do not contact the mabari armour (no armplates, which are still bone). Bone armour is of somewhat different merit, in a blaster fight bone armour is very good, (I haven't been in enough protracted blaster fights to quote good numbers here but ~30-40% overall damage mitigation sounds right). But up against creatures that do kinetic damage bone armour does nothing but lower your stats.
Easy suggestion? Go back and take more Domestic Arts. Then you can experiment more and 1) Raise the protection up AND 2) Lower the HAM costs. I LOVE having my 11 points of experimentation, going on 12!
