They are, but they're more of a pain in the ass than they're worth. You can make more by doubling up on deliver missions to another city and hopping the shuttle. You have to be X far away from where you started before the survey counts. So you can't say "Hey, I know a GREAT place to find that right over there!" You have to go across the known world for it to work.

Yeah they are working but I find i always have to go to another planet to complete it
