So I finally decided to make a crafter. Now, I have no idea on what the heck is goin on, so bare with me.

First off, what is this experimentation? I seem to get it randomly, and was wondering what everyone was talking about with the 12 point and 14 point Experimentation things. So we only get so many experimentation points? Once we use them ,thats it?

Could someone explain this to me...because it's confusing...somewhat...

I recommend checking out the FAQs on all of the crafter profession forums, but in short:

For every item that is crafted "near" a public, or private crafting station (some schematics for items require this, and also could require a specific crafting tool, i.e. Weapon, Droid, and General Crafting tool, or Clothing and Armor Crafting tool, or a Structure Crafting tool.). The experimentation lets you try and make the item better than it would be without experimentation.

At any novice level, you only have a few experimentation points, and at master the rule of thumb is 10, though some races get bonuses to certain crafting professions (i.e. humans get an extra experimentation point for artisan, making them 11 point artisans.).

Getting those few rare extra experimentation can be extremely useful in crafting professions, such as Armorsmith, Weaponsmith, and Doctor items, such as buff Packs, and for combat medics, the poison and disease packs, etc.

This is done by skill tapes, Clothing attachments, or Armor attachments...and there is a drink called Bespin port that gives just a little bump to the chances of success vs failure. And you can and will have a failure when crafting items...they suck.

That is the short version of what experimentation points are good for. The rest can be picked up from the FAQs, and from all the regular posts. A good site to check out that gives a plethora of information is www.swgcraft.com.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy it.

But are experimentation points always there to use...or do they run out? Like is it one time use? If it is...then I think I wasted 5...

I had a similar question when I was starting out.

Experimentation points are available every time you experiment with an item. As a human Master Artisan with no tapes/brandy, etc, I have 11 experimentation points (10 for Master and 1 for human). Say I use my weapon/droid tool near a crafting station and I make a CDEF rifle. I get 11 points to use to enhance the rifle. Once I'm done, I make a CDEF pistol. I get another 11 points to use to enhance the pistol. I never "lose" points but I can screw up the item that I'm experimenting on if I get a critical failure.

Is that more clear?

Im new to this whole thing too. So, what your saying is, that I can only experiment on one item at a time, but If I screw it up, I can't experiment on that type of equipment again? Seems kinda harsh.

No, you misunderstand.

You can experiment using up to your max available points (determined by your skill in crafting that class of item). Once you have experimented on a specific item, you many not experiment that same item again. If you blow it, toss the item and make another, experiment it. Repeat until you get what you want.

Ok here you go in a short spill I will try to explain the crafting for artisan... Ok so say you make novice artisan, you start crafting itmes for xp, and all the sudden you get the option to experiment. What experiment is, it gives you the ability to make an itme better than it normally would be if you just made it and used it.. Now Experimentation only shows up if you have a driod with a crafting station in it or you are near a public or private crafting station. As a novice Artisan i believe you only get one or two experimentation points, what that means is that you can experiment on it two time to try to make it better. So say you make a survey tool and want to experiment on it, if your experimants go good then your tools is better that it would of been had you not experimented on it. But keep in mind that things can go drasticaly wrong and it fail, if it fails your item is now worse off than when you started. When you get higher in the artisan tree you get more chances to experiment. so say you are a human Master artisan, you get 11 points to experiment with. Now that works like this when you experiment you can use all at once or one at a time to try to make it better, it is on a general rule of thumb use one point at a time to experiment. Now to get better experiments on your objects you crafted you will realize the lets say for example you want to make a survey tool, it calls for soo much mineral and metal.. I dont remember exact numbers etc so just for example reasons it asks for 10 mineral and 10 metal, now of to the right of that screen yu will see something of the nature that says experimentation qualityand under it it will say something to the nautre experimentation durability. what that means is when you go to get your resources to make this item the box on the right may say unittoughness 66% and unit durability 33% to explain this it is saying in short the resources you use needs to have high numbers in the unit toughness and unit durabiliyt to make this items quality as high as u can the higher the numbers the better, but the more costly at times to purchase, unless you harvest your own.. if you use high quality resources you experimantation will bee much better in the end resulting in a very high quality product. This is especially useful in speeders swoops etc... That in a nut shell is how artisan crafting works, or crafting for any profession works...
