When you have the crafting tool open and an item clicked on, you can see to the left side of the window the list of ingredients. Below that, scroll down, you will see what % of which stat is used from the ingredients in order to make that particular item good. For instance....

CDEF Weapons require a metal and a chemical. Underneath you will see that 50% conductivity and 50% quality is used to determine the effectiveness of the weapon for each part of the weapon. This means if you use an ore with 300 conductivity and 20 quality, you're going to get a crappy weapon that's no better than the starting CDEF pistol. If, however, you find a metal and chemical that you can use and has 950+ in both stats, you're going to make a weapon that has the potential upon experimentation to be a pretty good weapon. Getting a 29 or 30 to 60 or 61 damage weapon with a rate of fire of 3.4 is relatively easy with the right ingredients and any artisan should be able to do it. Weaponsmiths, if they use the right ingredients, can make some pretty good weapons.

The same goes for armor and any other item you make. The success of the combine will also effect the stats of the armor/weapon/droid. The better your materials in the %s required, the better your combines will be.

Can anyone explain the effects resource stats have on making items? A general guide would be great thanx.

I'm hoping to collect crafting information in this thread.

We know that certain items need certain things, for instance basic weapns need conductivity, this is most often provided by copper, while durability comes from steel.

SO what are the best things to use for say a CDEF Pistol

Steel casing

Copper inards

What type of Chemical

And what do you make a barrel for it out of?

The beauty of the materials system in SWG is that the resources are not static they change from server to server, fom week to week, from planet to planet. I'm guessing the best thing to do is sample one of each unit available on your planet and analyze what sort or statistical makeup you need for your product and sample the ones with the best match. There really will be no way to lock down a certain resource long- term I'm afraid.

Call me crazy, but I can't seem to survey/sample any metal at all. I can get chemicals, but I can never find any metal. Any help?

Oh, and yes, I am using the mineral survey device.

Copper usually works the best for a CDEF weapon because they usually have high conductivity, as well as a high quality. Most of the time, that is.

To find out what affects things the most go to your data pad and look up draft schematics, this will tell you what percentage affects what, CDEF weapons work best with high conductivity, and Overall Quality, now I want to point out that despite the 50/50 split experimentation percentages can changed based upon material.

Basically, I have made a CDEF with a Steel with conductivity 598, and OQ of 903 totaling 1501 for the combined, and using a copper Conductivity 992 OQ 364 totaling only 1356, they both produce the same quality, but the Copper gives a lower fail percentage for experimentation. This may be because of Malleability (Copper 960, Steel 373).

It would be nice if there was more of a trade off between materials, if Aluminum would make low pool cost weapons, and high heat resist materials increased the rate of fire, though with a reduced damage. Maybe higher end schematics have it.

Cunbelin,

Ever consider making a precise guide to materials for crafting? Seems like you have quite a good handle on it. I haven't even started paying attention to the stats for materials..seems the server I'm on has enough new people without weapons that demand is quite a bit higher than supply

Do we have to obtain our own resources or can we buy them via the Bazaar?

Hi all,

I just wanted to ask about the resources part of the crafting. Well don't beat me to bad ok. Anyways I wanted to make a pistol, and it says components are metal, and chemical. I looked everywhere for metal, but I can not find it. Do they want me to find metal, or just a type of metal, i.e. Eloo, Balki, and Idiba? Those are all a type of metal. Am I looking for a type of metal or am I looking for metal? Not trying to be dumb or anything, but I have to make sure. This crafting stuff is a bit confusing to me. Thank you for your time and help all. Have fun on SWG.... I am trying. Oh yeah Adeem I believe you can buy the resources in the bazar.

Deacon,

I ran into a guy in-game having the same problem. I made him a new survey device and all of a sudden he wasn't having the problem anymore.

Just look for metal. Aluminum, Copper, Iron, Steel, all are considered metals. For the lower-level crafted items, the resources you need are fairly generic. As you get higher (more difficult) schematics, they'll start to ask for specific metals and such.

What are some good items to start out crafting as an artisan?

And can artisans work there way to bio-engineers as well as Droid-Engineers?
