Thread: A bit of advise please...

I'm having some difficulty getting off the ground as an Artisan. I'm all out of credits due to the cost of novice marksman and novice scout for supporting the Artisan profession in the field in my early stage. So my dilema is... No credit, continously dying (I'm a Mon Squid, I mean Calamari) so harvesting hides and bones and meat is really slow. What should I do to get out of this rut? I've been stuck for about a day and a half trying to come up with some type of a plan. I tried to find non-combat missions with no success, don't have the patience to use the bazaar, and no oneelse's stuffis selling so why should I bother with it. I have the surveying tools and sample, but the items I can make at my level are the same as everyone else's. Again, I really don't have the patience to wait 6 days for 30 credits (if, and I mean IF, someone happens to buy my item instead of the other 50 being sold there) I'm ready to advance in surveying but can't afford to train via NPC or PC. Can someone who is/was an Artisan please help me out? I'm not looking for spoilers here, just some direction. I'm on the planet (moon) Rori, in the city of Narmle on Bloodfin server. Name is Fovoot Toovof.

Thank you in advance

The best advice I can give is to do a little web research. There are several fan websites listed on the main SWG site. Pratically every one of them has a section for player produced guides. I have seen several regarding artisanship that went into great detail and were very helpful.

1. Do delivery missions. They're on the same terminal as destroy missions. Just flip the tabs a couple of times if the delivery missions aren't showing. There are an infinite supply of these. Do the low-paying ones until you've got enough money for a shuttle ticket, then try for the bigger payouts.

2. Don't use auction on the bazaar terminals. There's nothing you can sell within the price caps that warrants an auction. They should remove the option entirely, or at least make "instant" the default, but since they didn't, do it yourself.

I hate to do this, and I really shouldn't... but...

1) Create Artisan

2) Train Scout and Marksman

3) Kill and Harvest until you have Explore I and Int Pistol

Kill using OverCharge once then spamming PointBlank, after int pistol spam BodyShot instead. Just kill easy mobs just around town, you're no brute, you're a crafter. Get in trouble? Use threaten shot or burst run.

4) Start surveying for steel and fiberplast. Make power-ups over and over and over. Stop every once in a while and make some good weapons. Not the base stuff, experiment and make good stuff and sell it on the bazaar. Also crafting tools.

5) Repeat 4 until you're done.

Now you're on the path being a crafter, but with Explore skills for ease of movement over terrain, and the pistol skills to hopefully defend yourself. And if you can get your items to sell, you can make money!

Remember, this IS a grind. But those who see it as a grind, which is probably 80% or more, won't be around for long. After a while, they'll just get bored of it. Instead, make it fun! If it's fun for you, it'll be fun for your customers too.

Just my 2 credits.

Best way to make money? So far, for me it's to do Delivery Missions where you profit 500+ credits, and make sure they are all deliverable within the planet. The shuttle is usually 100-150 credits to travel there, so you should profit 400+ every mission sound good, yeah?

As far as selling things at the Bazaar, I've only been able to sell one thing. Because my prices are too high? I dunno. Screw the Bazaar (for now). Also, do not survey for steel. Bad idea. Instead, survey for Aluminum which counts as both a mineral and a metal

Im on Radiant, reciding in Talus a lot of the time. Just /tell if you have a question!

Terrorbeat has it. Alot of newer artisans just can't make any money or get killed alot doing missions. Get a combat skill to start off. I actually started as a brawler. I can solo about six white cons at the same time with beserk. Novice medic to use medpacks is also a plus. I run destroy missions, make sure they go the same direction, like both are E. Makes it SO much easier to do two. I also CHECK THE DIFFICULTY of the mission. I only take difficulty 8. And of those, I try to take the easier creatures I can spot. I'm on Rori, so I do nightspiders, rasps, spineflaps. Run two at a time, and you'll have money in no time.

I started out as an artisan. i trained marksman, and scout. ran a few low paying delivory missions, and got medic, and entertainer.

At this point, i took my mineral surveying tool, and found a decent Metal and sampled a lot of it. you need close to 27 pieces of metal to make a chemical tool.

when you make the chemical tool, look for fiberplast. be creative. don't expect it to be at your disposial, search around some. you will find it.

when you have a bit of fiber and metal, make yourself a weapon. (my fav is pistol.) when your done with that, make sure to kill the little stuff just outside town. harvest bones and hides, as well as some meat.

one thing that helps me out, is to use /prone and use the overcharge shot. make sure when you target them, that your about 30m away. it helps to make ya hit. I've found that if you hit them the first time, you can get actually hit them 2-3 times with overshot before they attack... when they are running at you, hit /kneel. this helps to keep you shooting, and not taking as much damage as you could be. prone and kneel help you to have better aim for shooting at your target. the +- on the left hand side of the targets name tells you your chance to hit mod, meaning, in pos is best, neg makes it harder to hit your target.

Meat is good for making stimpacks - which are used to heal wounds and stuff. you can also use a flora surveying tool, to find organic resources too. If you can find the time and the people, healing can make you some cash too. when your hunting, and have a stimpack or 2, click out at nothing, so you have no target, then use /healdamage to heal yourself. it takes some time to get it done, but not long before your back on your feet, blasting away.

the way into riches is not set forth for you, you have to experiment. try the bazaar, but don't expect to get rich off that.

blah blah blah. hehe. just have fun learning what you can do. i actually enjoy going to the cantina and playing some music on my horn thing. its quite fun, for me anyway.

keep at it. don't get frustraited.

above all else, just have fun. thats what its all about. :-)

The bazaar DOES work for selling lowbie artisan items, at least at this point in the game. Since we are all "new" again there is a market for survey and crafting tools. Of course the market will be totally flooded in another week or so, but until then you should be able to get some money. Just be sure to use "Instant Sale" like YukonSam said and check to see what the items you are selling are going for in your area. I am seeing basically all survey and crafting tools going for about 100 each, so i put everything up for sale at 99. I’ve sold everything I’ve put up so far.

Another thing, don’t pay an NPC for training unless absolutely necessary. Most people will train you for free but even if they charge you a couple hundred credits, it’s still cheaper. Just hang out by the star port, or bank, or where ever everyone hangs out in your city and /yell that you need to be trained.

Missions are always available if you really are hard up for credits, I’ve been fortunate so far and haven’t had to run one yet... but I might have to pretty soon to be able to buy hides and bone.

Also, I’m on bloodfin too, so /tell me in game if you want to ask me anything directly...

Good Luck.
