Thread: Free Items Won't Kill Anyone...

I notice there is a very large uproar over the volume of people giving away free items, and I think that people have to understand and realize that this is only a temporary situation, and not an altogether bad one.

This game, and its economy, is less than 4 days old right now. It is going to go through some severe fluctuations until things balance out, and even when it does balance out, people have to understand that in a few more weeks, another horde of new players is going to descend on the servers (remember that this was a limited release).

Right now, people seem focused on XP, and whatever it takes to get that XP. In addition, credits are flowing into the economy, but they are hard to come by for most people and a lot of folks are not going to have huge cash reserves. As a result, people are willing to give away crafted items to get the XP they need. As the economy matures and more credits become available, people will be less willing to give away items (as they are no longer gaining as much of an XP benefit from them, and their credit expenses become greater through maintenance, insurance and other similar factors) and more inclined to start asking for money.

Before anyone panics, I think we, as Artisans, should sit back, relax, and figure out how best to approach our own personal goals for the game before declaring the economy broken.

going to have to disagree with ya there,

While the game is new and so is the economy, we as crafters must set the standards for the future. If we all start just giving things away, that's what people will expect in the future.

If they expect it and don't get it, not anyone's problem but theirs.

The problem is, no matter how many crafters agree to do something, others won't. There will ALWAYS be a segment giving things away for free, no matter how many people try to set the standard otherwise. The only thing you can do is build up a clientele, gain a good reputation, and insure that you have quality, easily accessible goods that people want. People will pay for that.

In addition, some people give out free items to build up a reputation and trust. Nothing wrong with that either, it's like a promotional offer.
