Thread: A couple of questions for all you artisans...
Hello Artisan Forum,
I'm an aspiring Ranger who dabbles a little in surveying just to have something to do while I'm drudging my way through acquiring camping xp. I never meant to become a surveyor at all, but I had initially acquired the Novice Artisan profession just to mess around a bit in the beginning, and then something happened that totally perplexed me and made it useful to go ahead and progress with some surveying just for the heck of it. This strange event is why I'm here now, asking you all about it.
I have apparently been receiving Surveying XP for using the /tell command. Seriously. It was a very strange thing, but I had never surveyed once and I was just standing in the middle of town having a private conversation with a friend of mine when TA-DUM! The alarm sounded and the message popped up on the middle of the screen saying that I now qualified for Surveying II. It definitely struck me as odd. So I tested it, and found that my surveying xp was going up as I continued my private message conversations.
I'm figuring this is a bug, but I logged off shortly thereafter and haven't been back on yet, so I haven't reported it yet. I intend to this evening though.
I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed that occur to them as well?
My second question is related to a topic/idea/suggestion that I have observed on a couple of the threads here on the Artisan Forum. I've noticed, even posted by your Profession Correspondent as a pet peeve/personal interest item, that you all are asking for ways to make it so that consumers REQUIRE more of your manufactured goods in order to boost your profession and the economy. I'm not against this at all. The use of ammo in some form sound squite feasible, for example. Bullets for kinetic weapons (Tusken Rifles, etc) and battery packs for energy weapons (blasters, etc) all make sense to me. It was pointed out that people don't really NEED any of your manufactured goods really to get by. People can hunt with the weapon they start out with if they want. Even if they DO upgrade their weapon, they don't necessarily do it often enough for it to be a constant flow of income for the weaponsmith. Also, it was pointed out that people don't NEED power-ups at all. There have, I'm sure, been several suggestions for things like this for you guys, but I don't know of this question has also been asked.
Why don't they allow people to use more than one power-up on a weapon? If you could put multiple power-ups, of different types for example (like stock, barrel, grip, etc), then people may buy more and more of them, thus increasing some revenue for you guys.
The ammo thing would obviously increase revenue as well.
Also, if they made Weapon and ArmorRepair more stable/reliable so that it didn't degrade the weapon at higher weaponsmith/armorer skill levels (at least in my experience, it ALWAYS degrades the weapons condition) then that might also cause more revenue for you guys as well.
Well, there's my two questions and two suggestions, I guess. Hopefully someone can help me with these. Thanks a lot and happy crafting!

I long ago maxed out at survey4 plus 20K surveying xp, so I haven't personally experienced this "phantom surveying xp gain." However, an associate of mine has been noticing that he is gaining surveying xp consistently for an unknown reason. I will have him examine this theory that it is related to communicating. Our besttheory thus far has been thatsurvey tools that he has crafted and sold were giving him residual surveying xp (notUXP, as expected). You might be onto the true cause. If so,this must be a bug. I guess the point of my reply is that I too have seen unexplained rises in surveying xp, although I have not narrowed down the source as accurately as you have. Very interesting!
Malborka - I know I sold you some powerups while I was climbing the artisan ladder. They're even better now and have a 45% increase in stats minimum! Send me a /tell.
Heya Sweetpickle,
Yeah, I'll look you up when I get back to Talus. And thanks for the input on this thread. That's the best explanation I can give regarding the mystery Surveying XP's.

I have not had the survery exp bug happen to me. Please /bug it hehehe.
As for multiple powerups. I wondered this myself once. One of the questions I'll add to my list of please find out why along with what the heck them birdcages are for!
I like your other ideas as well. Anything that is going to have players come to crafters foritems/services is going to be good overrall for all crafters.
Jasarina,
Excellent. Glad to hopefully be of some help. I'm not playing an artisan at all so the revenue from these ideas doesn't affect me (except that I'll be paying it, of course), but I like to add anything that I feel contributes to the overall game dynamic, you know? Also, as a Rifleman/Scout (soon to be Ranger), I really don't have much purpose in coming to town now and having to reload on ammo or getting more out of power-ups would give me some incentive to visit the city more often. As it is, I usually can just camp when I wnat to take a break, I don't get much Battle Fatigue because I stay at ranged weapon distances and I get no wounds for the same reason. Any resources I need for my traps or camps I can get from easy kills. Really, the only reason I come to town now is to put money in the bank when I am done looting some corpse. I don't mind the interaction with the other characters and I like Role-Playing, but I just don't have a NEED for it right now, so I'd like any idea that requires it as much for role-playing as for equity for another profession and realism.

Now I may be wrong (since in live I am just using my trusty hand-crafted CDEF pistol) but in beta there were multiple slotted weapons at the higher levels of Weaponsmithing. Is this no longer the case? Any weaponsmiths out there?

Oh, no. I was logged on for quite a while by then. I just happened to be stopped and having a private conversation via /tells, you know? Besides, like I said, after I realized it, I checked and watched my survey xp go up as I did /tells. I don't know why. I've /bugged it now though, so hopefully they'll take care of it.
