Thread: Can't sample for minerals/metals

I've looked a bit on the boards here and I can't find an answer to why this is happening. I can, er, mine corn and berries and wood and so forth, but when I try and use my mineral survey tool (the one I started with), even though I'll be at a spot with 79% or so, I get the message that there isn't enough density to sample there. Is this something wrong with me or with my survey tool? It's kind of hard to make a new one when I can't get any metal to make one with.

this seems to happen after resource shifts. My friend has been unable to sample anything for 3 days now.

The rat race for resources is very competitive, if you are 3 days behind you might as well go do something else. She's a weaponsmith and can't get resources. It's amazingly messed up.

Devs have yet to comment.

Yeah, it started this past Saturday. I sent two CS tickets in on the problem. None of the new resources that Sony put into the game ALL DAY LONG onSaturday could be sampled. You could put a Harvester up and it would extract them at least, but for those who needed to sample some rich and safe veins in town, you were just out of luck. It is working now. I was able to sample a very hard to find low grade Ore on the outskirts of Theed last night.

Try recalibrating your survey tool and trying again. If that doesnt work, delete it and make a new one.

Just ideas, I have no direct experience with the problem.

I have experienced this. The reason you can sample other resources such as berries is that they were not part of the resource shift. Last time this happened to me it was around 8 hours before I could sample, just be patient.

So how do you sample for minerals/metals if you don't already have a tool? I started as a scout, not artisan so I don't have any survey tools. Do I just have to buy one from somebody?

Buy a generic crafting kit and a mineral surveyor on the market (or the crafting tool and a low volume of metal, whichever is cheaper). Go surveying/sampling for metal. Quality doesn't really matter at first. As you get metal, craft your other surveying tools. As you get into it, start paying attention to the stats of the sampled material as certain properties are highly desired by crafters.
