Thread: Crafting on the back burner. Artisan Greivance #1
Hehe Vae, I look at the forum and its all me and you ![]()
Can I be your official protocol droid if you get the job? ![]()
Mostly I've noticed that people, especially large guilds, share their opinions of the game much more freely in-game.
Another issue is availability of resources, quality of items, and competitive prices and relative economy health on all servers will be a great issue to be covered by the artisan community in general. I might consider selecting helpers for each server.
With out a doubt I will be giving up all combat skills some day... but not yet
I'm an artisan. A very, very, disappointed artisan.
Our community has been ignored by the Devs. since day one. The only time we get a discussion or fix on anything - is if it is gating combat professions.
This will not stand!
Rather than rant, which is where I was getting to before my semi-break from this forum, I am getting back into the discussion. And I will will not stop fighting until either the Devs give artisans the respect we deserve, or I leave SWG for another MMORPG.
Everything in SWG begins with the artisan. Now there are plenty out there who would like to see MoB drops replace us - and that is fine with me, as soon as they nerf every combat class to the point wherewe can compete with them in combatthey cangive combat the ability to compete with us economically. Our correspondent has been ignored by SWG to the point where she no longer wishes to play the game. Disgraceful. It is time for the developers to acknowledge our existance. I will be silent no longer.
This is my first Grievance post. It isthe first in a series that I will be writing to draw the attention of the Devs toproblemswith the Artisan profession(which isn't terrible, but could be much much better).

I really hate to say this, I'll probably get flamed by every artisan on the board, but there just aren't a lot of issues with the class. Overall the artisan is a pretty good and functioning class. There are issues sure, but more in the area of things we want, rather than major balance issues. Master Artisan probably needs more items that would enhance the profession, more niche items that the artisan can make that would make the class more rounded
I climbed the artisan tree, selling pretty much every item I made. I made a living off the profession and I felt I did pretty well. Most artisan items don't sell for huge amount of cash, so it either requires high volume, or takes more time to build up money than say a combat class or elite professions, but I felt it was viable. Artisan doesn't require huge amounts of resources to make items, so its a great profession for more casual players.
The greatest problem with the profession is that there are probably too many artisans. Elite professions are also artisans so we compete with each other to a certain degree or we just make our own artisan components rather than buy them from each other. Given time however, some of these issues will work out. In the end I"ll probalby have to sell back a large majority of my artisan skills to make room for elite profession skills. At some point I'm going to need to buy things that artisans can make rather than make them on my own. This isn't true of all crafters, but I think we shall see a more diverse economy as time goes by.
but I do disagree. Issues that artisans have in general are issues that all crafters have.
Have you ever noticed that experimentation results are completely off-base? If you have 1 point you might as well not experiment at all. If you get a "success" stats often decrease. Don't you have any desires for better vendor, harvester, and house features? Those features start with artisans.
We also represent a valid basic class. Medic, Scout, Entertainer, and Marksman all have valid basic uses. Many players would pick up and master part of any of these.
The only use for artisan is surveying and making repair tools, weapon powerups, and newbie weapons/armor. There is tons of content that is to be added to the game and I hope that a lot of content ends up in the artisan class.
hello,
first, let me say i am an adult with the job and responsibilities of one, so i am a casual gamer. i can not get on and play for 20 hours at a time. i realize this will hamper my advancement to some degree.
I feel they nerfed the artisan profession to an almost useless profession, whether by accident or design i do not know.
with level 4 skills in engineering and surveying it now takes me about 5 times longer to gather samples than it did as a level one. i do not feel a level 4 surveyor should only be getting a 1 or 2 unit sample from a site with a 96% concentration.
I have been playing since almost the start of the game and truly enjoy the game and the people i've met in the game. I feel the devs are going about the "balancing" all backward. Instead of Cutting and slicing they should be building up.
I do not want to be a luke or han solo. nor do i want to be a darth vader or emperor palpatine. I also do not want to be forced to join a group just to survive. That was one of the major reasons i cancelled my asheron's call account. there should be plenty of room in the galaxies for both types of players.
My last point is about the star wars economy i have seen mentioned in posts. that has been a joke since the start, but what can you expect with 9 year olds trying to be donald trump.
I guess i am saying that thegame should be more balanced from a professions view, not neccesarily from a combat view. remember, this is a game and not real life. most peopple come in and play to take their minds off the real world not have the same loads dumped on them as in real life. otherwise what's the point of playing? common sense by devs and players will get things done so all players can have a good time playing.
thank you for listening.

Vaedross, I agree with you 100%. Issues that artisans have are crafting issues in general. Experimentation, even basic formulas are busted for largenumbers of schematics, factory issues etc. I'm not saying I'm happy with these things, but these issues are much broader than just our profession. My comments were aimed more at the artisan profession itself.
Artisan is a basic profession, a building block to elite professions. I suppose its a matter of debate to where this profession should go, but overall its a support profession. My big hope for the profession is that it can stand on its own in support of other professions.
As to the other gentlemens comments about survey, well you can thank your fellow gamers for ruining your play. People were using survey as a long term harvestering method. Since there are zero costs involved with the resources that come from this method, it was causing problems. Survey is supposed to help you find resources and sample their quality, not to dig up massive amounts. Harvesters are for this and if run properly work very well for a casual gamer.
