Thread: Dear Artisans: Reason why Rangers are charging so much for resources
Interesting to see Economics at Work
Supply Decreases
Demand Stays the same
Prices Increase
I would Gladly pay 20-40 for some good quality Wooly on SS
On Intrepid a full suit of any kind of masterwork armor sells for 100,000 padded 150k and composite 200-250k. That makes the proffit margin around 50-100c per. That's well within the range of affording the prices you mentioned.
If armorsmiths are complaining about the cost of hide and bone then they're not charging enough for their armor.
Hi:
If anyone's wondering why the costs of resources have exploded, here is an explantion from a Master Ranger who has made her living on animal resources by fulfilling direct orders from Artisans, and selling on the bazaars on Starsider for the past 7 weeks.
On September 8th, a patch came through that enabled people in a group to share harvests. Anyone grouped could harvest off an animal and get 60% of what they normally get if they were solo.
Because the developers feared this would flood the market with hides, bone and meat, they reduced the amount of resources on animals by 50%.
Bantha Matriarchs that used to give 76 units of wooly hide now give about 32 units. It takes me about 15 units of materials to make the traps necessary to take down this animal. Therefore, I have to hunt rills and scyks to get the trapping material to go after my money makers.
If I am grouped with one other person, I get about 17 units of hide off a Bantha Matriarch, even if that person is not someone who can harvest animals.
The devs were trying to save the game's economy and ensure that Rangers could still make a living. Unfortunately, they did not realize several things about the game:
1. Most Rangers are solo.
2.Most scouts do not know what a good resource is.
3. Most scouts are only harvesting to become creature handlers, bounty hunters, or commandos.
4.The main source of quality material for elite crafters is provided by direct sales with Rangers who target specific game for specific resources.
With our resources cut by 50%, it now takes over twice as long as it used to to get these resource. Over twice as long because I now have to travel to twice as many lairs and it's twice as expensive for us to hunt these animals because we use twice the amount of traps.
I am no longer able to take orders for large amounts of hide because I simply don't have the game time to fulfill orders for say, 1000 units of wooly hide. This takes about 4 - 5 hours where it used to take 90 - 120 minutes.
I used to sell grinding resoures at 2 - 3 credits per unit. Now I charge 5 - 6. High quality hides I could sell at 4 - 5 credits a unit, now I charge 8 - 10. I'm still broke compared to my pre-patch income, cannot scrape up enough herb meat for my guild's PA, and refuse to completely soak Artisans to make up for the decrease in harvests.
Some Rangers are selling hides at 20 - 40 credits per unit, and they are being bought.
If you value your relationships with dependable Rangers who brought you the orders you need, please make this an issue.
Sincerely,
Ypiana Ikilfi
Master Ranger
