Thread: Harvester experimentation Newbie question

As a newly reaspiring Artisan (don't ask) I have a question about the pluses you get with harvesters and experimentation. I am only up to the personal harvestors right now, but would like to know if the higher levels are the same. Please forgive me if these questions are elsewhere in the forum, I haven't the time right now to read through them extensively.

Most havestors give a + to the hopper size. I have not placed any over my own +68% harvestors yet, I am waiting for my existing ones to power down before destroying them, but ALL of the one's I bought have the exact same hopper size, 25,000. I can't believe they all have the same hopper size percentage. Does that mean the + hopper size doesn't affect the hopper size?

In a similar vein, does the + percent to efficiency of a wind generator mean it will produce more power at a given location than one with a lower value? I managed to craft a +63% efficiency one and will consider crafting more of these and replacing my existing ones if there is a benfit.

Any help will be appreciated.

Currently, experimentation on any structure, be it a harvester, generator, house, PA hall, etc, does absolutely nothing. Also the quality of materials makes no difference either. Not sure why they even make the option available to experiement on those types of items.

Well, now I am depressed. I hope they eventually fix it.

With the materials I have been using and my experimentation, I have been getting +67 - 73% efficiencies and storage. And I am only at Eng 4, with no domestic. I'm thinking by the time I get novice Architect with a box or two, I could get that up to 99%. I heard that was the highest, nothing into 3 digits.

I think having twice the efficiency should give you twice the power or half the cost.

Regarding experimentation and hopper size, that's my experience as well. No difference.

Dunno about the wind generator efficiency, though.

There are those who report that highly expiramented on harvesters & factories cost less to maintain, but there seems to be no general consensus. And I'm generally too busy extracting all I can to do a controlled test (place 5 maximally expiramented on and 5 worst possible harvesters all side by side, put exactly the same amount of credits & power in them all, and let them all run for 1 or 2 days before checking to see if any used more or less maintenance, power, or extracted any more or less than their neighbors).

However, as a Master Artisan on Wanderhome, I now have 10 points to expirament on so if somebody wanted to do an expirament like this, I would be happy to help make some really good and some really bad harvesters. I might even be able to help subsidize the power & credit requirements.....

Last night I crafted up 30 new harvestors, trying for maximum goodness. Tonight I will craft up about 18, trying for maximum badness. Tomorrow night most of my existing harvs should be ready to die and I will be doing this experiment, though on a reduced scale.

I have 2 wind and 2 mineral that are currently harvesting the same resource and are right next to each other. I will be using those 4 spots to tun the checks. I will report back with results when I have them. This may not be as conclusive as a 5 vs 5 test, but it is all I can afford to do right now. Gotta make a living and all

I got a good news/bad news update and a couple more newb type questions. If anyone knows a place I can get these answered without clogging the forum, I will be more than happy to read up. I have already read what is on the SWGCraft and Alakazam(sp?) sites.

Bad news: I won't be able to test the % efficiency thing like I originally thought cause...
Good news: I have a lot more paid in maintenance than I thought.

I should get to testing by Thursday (I hope).

Questions:
How long does a havester last after the maint. runs out? Hour(s), day(s)?
Can you still empty the hopper, or do you have to bring maint. up to at least 1?
If it has power, will it still run?
and if so, will it be at the same rate or a reduced rate?

If no one here can answer all the questions, I will experiment and try to get the answers to the unanswered questions for posting. Oooh, bad grammer strikes again.

I tested the Wind harvesters and noticed no difference between one with a 4% and another with a 68% efficiency. Guess we can make em out of whatever junk resources we have laying around.
