Thread: Future idea presents

My first posting on here but I had an interesting idea and thought I might share it.

I was walking home from doing some Christmas shopping and the though occured to me that why not have presents in SWG. Basicallyyou'd have the Domestic arts branchgaining the present making schematics, best place it fits in. So for example Domestic Arts 1 would get a plain wrapped present, they'd just get to choose the paper colour. As you go up the branch the presents would become more fancy and decorative. Bows, ribbons, glitter....etc. As you reach Master Artisan you'd get really fancy sparkly presents with ribbons and paper, coloured by choice. Fairly simple to model and the arts team could have some fun with them.

So how would they work. They could be similar to the Fireworks Show package. You create a present package thats empty, no chance in loosing the gift in a critical failure then, and afterwards can place one item into it. Once wrapped you get to name the present, "Gift for xxxxx","From your secret admirer"or whatever you like. Examining the present shouldn't reveal what's inside, though it could give some clues. Even better as you advance up Domestic Arts the better the wrappings the harder it is to tell whats inside. A basic present may, when examined, say "It feels heavy and lumpy" when inside is a box of resources or that it rattles or jingles when there's a weapon or some other item inside. As you get to the better presents they could have completely random clues as the Artisan is just that good at hiding whats inside.

Ok so this is hardly a groundbreaking idea that will change the game as we know it but think of the possibilities. The roleplayers would love it, it would be great for holidays, events, parties, or just to give to a friend. PA's could have a lucky dip vendor at events, you could playPass the Parcel (Gift within a parcel, within a parcel.......etc, etc), have Secret Santa's (Secret Life Day Wookie's even). Worth considering adding into a wishlist somewhere.

Yeah the entertainer effects would be good for it, easy way of adding to it without needing lots of new art and stuff, makes the dev's lives easier. Of course they'd have to be high up the tree to make use of them and cost a reasonable amount of resources. You want it so those types of presents would be something special, where as an event would go for the slightly cheaper and easier to make less "exploive" ones.

Problem is getting the idea to the dev's and onto a wishlist. Surprises me there's no general Artisan Wishlist sticky thread in here, never know how many great ideas could be lost as they are quickly scrolled off the first page of threads. Anyway I'll have to keep an eye out for an opportunity to suggest it again.

yes and what would be even cooler is that you can "open" it two difference ways.

1) from your inventory and you say open and you see the ribon untie and the bow fall or pop open and inside is your gift and like maybe the pakaging kinda animate falls apart and disapears.

2) you place the item in your house and select "open" and it is like a creatyre habitat is release, you see again it animate the ribbon untie's and ther is some sparkle as the box opens, falls apart and dispaears and inside is the gift, or rather now sitting were you placed the gift box is the item inside! One item per gift box though I think otherwise you could not animate like this.
