Thread: What does Practice do?

I've searched the board and can't find the answer anywhere in the manuals or holocron either, so can someone tell me what happens when you select Practice during crafting? I've tried it a few times and so far I haven't seen anything happen except it saying it will play the finished prototype in the output hopper (Or whatever it is called) and then not making an item. Am I getting experience, and is it taking the materials?

It uses the materials, and you get an XP bonus. I believe it's 25% more than the usual XP from crafting that item. The item is not produced, though.

Practice gives you a 5% bonus on earned xp (of the same type the item gives), uses up the materials (including components), but does not create the item.

This got added a month or so after release after all the items being ground for xp started to take a toll on the game database. This way no tracking needs to be done on the server side, you don't have to worry about going into your inventory to delete items made just for xp, and the xp bonus is the carrot to induce people to use the feature.

Thanks for the correction... it had been too long since I'd read that.

Thank you for the info. I'll be doing practice for now on.
