Thread: What does a crafting tool's rating affect?
Some crafting tools are rated -10%, others +8%, etc...
What does this affect? How well the tool experiments? Or do better tools reduce the chance of critical failures?
Thanks!
It affects your critical fail rate, and gives a chance to make the item "better" than it would have come out. So any tool with a negative rating is taking away from your crafting ability, and any positive tool is adding to your crafting ability.
The range of the tools is roughly -14.5 to +14.5.

According to the devs quality affects the chance of a critical failure. Of course they don't say how much. I'm still using my -13 crafting station and for what I craft (mostly make powerup and repair tool schematics for my factory) it isn't worth it for me to pay a premium for a "better" one.

Very true I have a home station that is at 41.98 and a driod with a negitve that I have used for months no differance that I can tell. Only thing I notice is that some days I have little or no crit fails and some days its one after another.
I have been accumulating high qaulity resources for months and with a - or + crafting stationor toolI cant tell any differance wether it be final experiment values or crit fails. I remember seeing a qoute from the devs about how it is supposed to work but nothing on how it really works.
This debate has been raging for months, the correspondent has asked the devs and we have heard nothing. I know this is speculation but so is assuming that crafting station quality matters, the devs know that it is not working as it should.
Do I try and get the best experment when I make crafting stations of course for two reasons, 1) I have some good resources 2) in hopes of the future.
Master Artisan's utilizing 1000 conductivity copper can create a 15 functionality crafting tool - that seems to be the limit that Ive seen - even with a few exp points left you cant go higher.

So, in effect, when the crafting tool I make has an effectiveness rating of 5.412341, it is effectively a +5 crafting tool? And this is the same listing that is in essence the + rating of the crafting station too?
