Thread: Harvester bug/problem vanishing resources?

First what happened:

1) Checked 5 Heavy Mineral Harvesters and 2 Fusion Ion.

2) All had resources on them, none had shifted yet, so I collected the resources from each and checked they were still running (between 1 and 25 resources on each when I finished)

3) Went back after each shift in the spawns and found all of them to be empty upon my return. No-one else had admin, no-one else uses my account.

It seems that after I collected the resources to date the harvies continued working, then the shift came and somehow deleted the storedresources? This has happened before, all in the last 2 weeks or so.

Has anyone else been going back to their harvesters after an end of shift and found them empty?

If this sort of thing is happening to no-one else then I'll have to put in a ticket and assume my account is bugged somehow.

I submitted a /bug in game just in case

I have seen this a few times. Thought at first it was just bad timing on my part, to have checked my harvesters just as a shift was ending. But then it has happened several times since. I believe it has to do with the harvesters not updating how much of a resource they have dug up, since the last time you checked them. Since they are only updating when you physically go up to them, and the resource has indeed shifted out since the last time, the information for that resource is no longer available.

If you are definitely showing several units in the hopper before leaving the harvester, then it has to be a bug with how the harvester is updating when you open it again.

Don't let the negative AFKophobes get you down. Play the game however you want.

But it is interesting that several units of the resource had deliberately been left on the harvester, and those had disappeared also. I sometimes leave out-of-spawn resources on my harvesters for quite a while, because it is extra storage, and have not noticed those disappearing. If there was some of the resource in the hopper, then it should have just updated the quantity, based on how long the harvester ran until the shift. This bug seems to be having problems updating, as well as discarding actual units from the harvester. If the harvester had been left, untouched, for a several days, with the resource despawning just a few hours before the owner checks it, then that would be the loss of a substantial amount of resources. That would be a very serious bug. Quite often, however, we don't know when something has despawned, just that it has done so sometime between now and the last time we checked the harvester.

I have had this happen to me as well. I did report it and I tried to "make" it happen but no luck. Perchance did this happen during a shift that occurred in the last day or 2? Like the day they patched in some new stuff? That is the only veraiable I could not easily try for my tests.

My previous comments and tests are in this thread

Out of curiousity, when was the last time that happened?

I've seen that a few times, where a shift occured between visits and I had hardly anything in the hopper. My theory is that it was caused by the fact that harvesters don't really exist in the world when no one is looking at them. You leave the harvester, it sits in the world for a little bit (gathering resources), then unloads. You visit again, the harvester reloads, calculates how long it's been since it's last update, multiplies that duration by it's BER and the concentration to determine how much it should have now. The calculation is probably also done if another player passes by (since that also requires reloading the harvester into the world).

If a shift occurs, though, there's no value for the concentration, so it doesn't have anything to add.

Now, remember that problem a week orsoback where weird resources were showing up in the harvester hopper? My guess is that bug was caused by the devs trying to fix the vanishing resources problem. But instead of calculating how much of the previously spawned resource it should have, it picked up the concentration of some other resource.

The weird resource buggot fixed, although whether they were able to keep the hypothetical"vanishing resources" fix is still up in the air. I did have a few harvs on Dath that were active for around a day after the resource shifted out, and I got roughly what I should've (some margin of error has to be assumed for the "inactive time" swgcraft had). However, they were in the middle of a bunch of other harvesters, so there may have been multiple reloads triggered by other players.

The one thing in common that I can see between these incidents is that they happened to harvesters that were harvesting and the shift came near or at the same time as an update to the game. In my partciluar case it stood out in my mind cause 9.2 had been patched in that morning (The title of the thread I started reflects this . It also was significant cause I had cleand out the harvesters before the shift, Checked the resource for the next few hrs (about once every 6-12 hrs when shift time is near) so *knew* that there had been that resource under the harvesters for long enough to collect a lot. So when they were near or at empty I was rather annoyed.
