Thread: Ok I am really confused about this Experimenting deal
Sorry about that, something freaked out... anyway, i don't see any options at anytime through the crafting process to "experiment." Can anybody explain using small east to understand words...
thanks
To Experiment, you first need to make sure you are using the specific crafting kit. In other words, you need to be using the Weapon, Droid, General Kit if you want to experiment on anything in those categories.
Then you need to be next to one of the public crafting stations (later on, you'll need private crafting stations for the more complex stuff).
Then craft as normal. Once you finish putting the resources in, the next option that comes up is Experiment.
Once you finish experimenting, you're given the option to Create Prototype or Create Schematic. Pick the first if you just want the item, the second if you want to make a bunch in a factory.
Hope this helps.
Just to expand a little on what Gallado wrote -
Experimenting is basically a chance for you to (dramatically, perhaps) improve the stats that your final item will have. There is some measure of risk involved, as well, but as you advance in the artisan and elite professions, you'll be able to experiment with greater ease on more items. All that Gallado said applies - you have to be next to a public or private crafting station, and you have to be using the corresponding crafting tool. Unfortunately, you can experiment on items you make with the generic tool. After you've assembled your item, you are shown its initial crafted stats, and then given 3 options. a) Create prototype b) Create schematic, or c) Experiment. If you select either a or b, your item, or the schematic for it will be created with those stats you were shown after you assembled it. If you select Experiment, however, you'll be given the opportunity to spend experimentation points to improve your item. On a side note, for tips ongetting better initial stats, take a look at my other post titled "Pointers for better success in your crafting". When you click on the experiment button, a new window wil show up, with a number of percentages, a few horizontal bars, and a few vertical ones. On the lower left side of the screen, you'll be shown how many experimentation points you have left available to use. The middle box on the lower part of the screen with allthe horizontal bars madeup of little boxes is where you actually apply the points, and after you've placed a point or two, your risk of failure will be shown to you in the lower right of the screen.
Touse your experimentation points, simply click on the row of boxes corresponding to the stat you want to try and improve. Each box you click on will subtract 1 point from your total, but you can freely change the number of points to use anytime before you click the Run Experiment button. Naturally, the more points you use at once, the higher your risk of failurewill be. I've always been most successful with spending 1 or at max 2 points at a time. In order to reclaim an experimentationpoint you've used, (before clicking the run button - Once you do that, any points you've allocated will be spent for good, success or failure.) simply click on the box to the left of the last one in the line, or the percentage number next to the bar graph itself if you've only placed 1 point.
A note on successes and failures - There are varying levels of them, with the more extreme giving you better returns or stiffer penalties. For example, I've had a "Critical Failure" on armor before that totally wiped out the stat that I was experimenting on, and also prevented me from experimenting onthat particularstat again to try and raise it. "Amazing Successes" are the good stuff, thought
They'll typically boost the stat you're working on by 8-10%.
I realize that this may have been more confusingthan anything, but next time youre in game, just open up the experimentation screen and play around with it some. This write up will make much more sense when you're actually looking at it. Hope it cleared a few things up, and good luck! If you're on Bloodfin, feel free to sent me a tell if you have any questions. Char's name is Agitack Eilokkek. Later.
