Thread: are personal harvesters worthwhile?
Yep, there needs to be 3k of maintence in the building before you can redeed it.
Also, harvesters will gather resouces while you are offline. They're a pain to keep maintence on, but if you know how to manage it, it's doable. Working on three harvs and two wind gens by myself. Alot of destroy missions, but the extra resources will be worth it. Also keeps me from having to wait on people to train if I have the moolah to do it myself.
Later in the game, you'll be able to get bigger, better harvesters that gather at a much more advanced rate than the Personal ones.
how much does a personal harvester take to maintain?
they're not very expensive building wise, but maybe maintenance wise?
Wind harvesters will harvest 5 wind energy per real-time minute and will cost 1 credit to run for that one minute. This is for a 100% spot (best I've found is about a 50% concentration, so I get 2.5 energy per minute) -- one day's maint for wind harvester is 1440 credits.
Personal mineral harvesters harvest 2 resources per minute at 100% concentrations of that resource. Personal mineral harvesters cost .5 credits per minute to maintain and require .5 power per minute to run (once the power bug is fixed). One day's maint for a personal mineral harvester is 720 credits.
Medium harvesters were harvesting twice the resources and costing twice the maint the last day of BETA. The only benefit to medium harvesters is that they still only take 1 building slot, so you can have twice the potential for harvesting (still costs the same).
When you stop to consider that a medium and large house take thousands or even tens of thousands of resources, there is no way that you can gather that amount sampling by hand.
Having harvesters work for you 24/7 is the only way to gather the number of resources you will need to make items further up the Architect skill tree. In fact, if you decide to start cranking out factories, large houses or even a PA hall, you will want to find a group of friends to help you by sharing the costs. It will be nearly impossible for a single solo architect to maintain a large house and a few harvesters and do anything else. For one thing, with a 10 lot limit, a large house will eat six of those, leaving you only 4 lots left to place harvesters on - and that doesn't even count any factories you may wish to have.
Factories require resources by the thousands to make items.
Fantastic i say
