Thread: Just starting out, what is the first thing I should do?
theres a post by sabermaster_69 that answers a lot of questions you might have. I'd copy and past my post there, but im lazy. :-)
title is : A bit of advise please...
When you get down to your starter planet you get 2 surveying devices (mineral and flora) and a general crafting tool. No messages or anything, it just appears in your inventory.
My suggestion is to go tooling around with the mineral surveyor and get enough to build a chemical surveyor first. Much of what you'll want to build will need chemicals, so it's a very good thing to get early. After making one of those, you can get the necessary parts for CDEF weapons.
The only money you'll actually need starting off is for insurance/cloning/tipping for training (if that's what you do). Everything you need to craft items you can go into the world and get, no need to buy it. This definitely lends itself to the theory of poor and struggling artist, but hey, it works.
I recommend making guns in a loaction with a lot of hunter types, then sell them off like hotcakes. You get extra exp up to 150% MORE than you got just for crafting it when the item is used, so the more items of yours being used, the more you get out of it. Just my suggestions after a whole 1 total day of playing.

i think this only happens if you do the new player tutorial. otherwise they should be in your inventory.
If you didn't start out as an artisan, then you need to get your hands on a mineral survey device and maybe a general crafting tool, depending on which profession you started out as. The mineral survey device will allow you to get minerals which you can then use to make more survey devices with your general crafting tool. You probably can get someone to make these for free, especially if they are starting out as well.
