I know I need novice artisan tosurvey but do I need it to place a harvestor.

If I need novice artisan to place it I'll just deal with it but if not I'll hire an artisan to survey and place the harvestor myself.

Forgive me I've NEVER placed a harvestor and am VERY new to the art of mining.

I'm making a career change from scout/ranger to medic/combat medic so you can imagine how new I am to this.

No. Unlike surveying the harvester actually has a good interface for seeing what percentages of stuff is under the harvester. You use the deed, drop the harvester (I think it would be cool if it overlayed your last survey result on the place harvester interface so you could see the %'s), then go to "operate machinery" and then do "change resource". You will get a complete list of everything the harvester can harvest in that spot, as well as % densities. Select what you want, make sure your harvester has power and maint, then hit "turn harvester on" and you are good to go.
