I've built all my survey kits except the mineral surveyor. I am not up to Surveying III but yet the mineral surveyor is the only surveyor that has increased in surveying range. Is this due to the fact that my other surveyors were built poorly? I just didn't know if the builder or the quality of the item affected the surveying distance.

Have you reset the range on each tool? You have to do it for each one seperately. Put the mouse over 'tool options', then it should give you a choice 'set tool range' or something like that. Click on that, set the new range and you're off!
