Thread: What makes a resource good?

I am not much of an artisan, and might be asking for a simple answer to a complex question. My focus is in supplying raw materials to true artisans. The problem is, I don't always know what makes an item good. Copper, for instance, I am told the conductivity is the most important, while others the overall quality is what matters.

So the question is: When you are looking for the right materials to produce that particular high-quality item (whatever your specialty is), what is important? What material and attribute qualitis do you look for?

Take a look at the crafting guide that was put up last friday under "guides" off the main web page, it gives alot of detail on this subject.

But basicly, the item you're making will list several attributes at the bottom of the schematic. Those attributes should be high in the resources you use to make that item. There is no "one size fits all" answer to this question, because while the same resource might be used in 2 different items, in one it might greatly improve the end product, and for the second schematic, make the item many times worse.

Know thine resources....

The type of metal is not really important unless the schematic specifies a particular (ie. copper, non-ferrous, carbonate, etc.). In the crafting window when you get to the step where you actually put the ingredients in, down below item you are crafting's image there is a list of properties that dictate what to look for. I know for most of the clothes I make the most important thing is Decay Resistance (even though right now clothes don't decay). It is listed at I think 66%, and listed at a much smaller percentage are Overall Quality and Toughness. Therefore I look for the material in the necessary categories that best meet these needs.

The best thing to do would be to get the info from the types of crafters you want to provide for and sample each of the different types of minerals, chemicals, etc. to find out which best meet their needs. If you are already pulling a specific resource then just find out who that is most beneficial to and try to make a deal with them.
