Thread: WTH are Meteoric minerals???
They are a mineral that can only be found MAYBE once a month due to a meteor storm that passes over the planet randomly, dropping small depostis of minerals on the planets surface. These minerals are superior to all other minerals and can be used as a substitute in a recipe that calls for any type of mineral(eg. ferrous metal, non-ferrous metal, steel, iron, etc.) All stats on meteoric minerals are listed as 999. Meteoric mineral can only be found on the survey tool as "Unknown Mineral Substance" so do not stand out to someone just browsing the survey tool. Once located, these minerals can only be gathered by manually sampling them, and even then, the amount found in any particular place will disappear rather quickly(1 day or so) as they are only small deposits.
OK, so i made all of this up, but it was with good intentions in mind. I am a weaponsmith and deal a lot with different minerals, and after reading quite a few posts about why the main minerals required for weapons ALL require iron and steel which have crappy stats for the needed areas, i was asking myself how this could be fixed. People have suggested changing the statistics on iron/steel or even changing what stats effect weapon quality when making them. I thought to myself that the only problem is that if SOE did so, then weapons ofVERY high quality would be way too common. AVERY high quality weapon SHOULD be hard to come by, and it should be something the smith who created it cantake pride in.
My solution above addresses quite a few issues at hand, and still makes it perfectly appropriate for the time period/setting. The SWG universe is quite similar to our own, and look how many meteorites have been found on JUST earth alone, one of which was VERY large ( Arizona's Meteor Crater). The quality of material from these meteorites is outstanding when compared to anything else available to date. Now imagine if we could gather samples of all the meteorites that have hit the other 8 planets in ourgalaxy and im sure you can get my drift. This would also addressbeing FORCED to use sub-par materials to craft high lvl weaponry, as the meteoric minerals could be substituted in place of plumbum iron, polonium iron, or even just basic ferrous metal if you so wished to make a kick ass CDEF. Make it very difficult to find, and even then only on rare occasions will it be found(as addressed by the rarity of its appearance and "Unknown" classification), and make it unable to be mined in large quantities(unable to be mined with machinery), and i think it could be worked into the game currently without having an overpowering impact, but still allow crafters to produce avery high quality item once in a blue moon(as a master crafter should be able to with he proper materials).
Let me know what you all think, and help keep this post alive for a DEV to see if you think it is a worthwhile idea.
Thanks for taking the time to read!
As i said, they would be a very rare occurance(ifonce amonth is too often, then cut back even more), and very hard to find due to not being visible at first glance. There are already plenty of minerals on the tool labelled "Unknown" and i assume(from my own experience) that most people just wizz right past them. The only way you would find out that it actually was Meteoric mineral would be to set the tool for theunknown resource and survey until you got a high enough concentration to actually take a sample, and without knowing for sure, most people will probably look right over it. Maybe if they made it onlyread once the density hit 40%+ ? Also with it having to be sampled manually it would insure that no large amounts could be stockpiled.
All thoughts, criticism, and improvements are welcome
Love that idea!
And if you limit it to just a few dozen samples more or less, you could control how much of an impact it would make on game play.
Bumping is not allowed, and this topic certainly doesn't warrant that.
All I can say to this is NO WAY! High tier items use extra-specific resources for a reason - they're supposed to be rare. The last thing we need is some ub3r mineral that has super-high stats and can be used in any slot.
I agree that something needs to be done to correct the problems with using Iron and Steel in combines that look for Conductivity and Overall Quality, butthisis definitely not the answer.
Someone in another forum reminded me that i forgot the artisan forum, so im posting here for all to see. If you like the idea please atach a 5 at the botom right of the post and help it be seen.....
