Thread: Unable to craft 100% repair tools?

REcently on farstar there has been a shift of 1000CD steel (primarily for Shipwright's I heard) but this stuff is great for tools. I can craft perfect (+15) crafting tools but for some reason, when I try to craft repair tools, the highest I can get is 99.9999999999%. I know the different is EXTREMELY neglible but I would prefer to be able to market 100% repair tools than 99.99% ones. Any ideas why this?

NB: I am crafting in a Research Centre city.

Frankly, I'm surprised you were able to get the 15.00 crafting tools. It's my understanding that the way the crafting system is supposed to work is that there's a "theoretical" maximum (ie. 15.00 on crafting tools) but that these maximums can never actually be reached even with perfect materials.

Back at the beginning of this year on "patch day" there was a new crafting system that was only in place for one day; on this dayit was possible to get 100% items, but to my knowledge 100% items aren't normally possible.

The crafting tools experiment to 99%, and turn out at 15.00 (Valcyn just had a spawn of 1000 CD copper). I would have thought 99% experimentation would have made a 14.99 tool...

Would a screenshot of it ease your pain?

Oh, I'm not doubting you at all. Personally I still have 100% schematics for all of the crafting tools (yes even generics) and all of the repair tools from "patch day." I just had never heard of anyone making 15.00 tools outside of "patch day." Good for you for accomplishing it though!

Just a quick note to confirm that 15.0 rated crafting tools are still able to be produced. I was even able to make them before the infamous "patch day" using the 1000 Conductivity Copper I had, and continue to be able to make them today. The 100% armor/weapon/clothing repair tools however were a one day phenomenom, and I long ago ran out of the schematics for the Armor and Weapon tools... still have some clothing tools left on the schematic however.

To tell you the truth, mathematically (.999999~ repeating = 1). So, if you are able to actually hit the 99.9999999999 mark the chances are it had to trunkate the remaining digits (more 999999......) to what you see there. It is mathematically 1. Hence, you can advertise it. I doubt people would quibble over .01% anyways. 99.99% is still damn good.

Additionally, +15 crafting tools are very possible with 1000 CD copper. I make them myself. Not to mention what kind of power-ups 1000 CD copper makes......

Interesting the 999 CD copper produces 14.97 tools, too. We have both 1000 CD and 999 CD copper on Tempest. Of course, it only took 11 months between the spawns!

I bought a 99.99% repair tool thinkin the same thing........ when I used it I lost my brand new 1.1 speed scythe =( I was pissed, I mean what are the chances of that .01 ruining your weapon?!

I payed 50 bucks for SWG but when I bought it I had no clue I was paying for the beta...

funny thing is I get charged 15 bucks a month and it's still in beta

Actually it probably wasn't the .01 that did it. Even with the 100% repair tools you can still get a critical failure. The 100% repair tools do no guarantee a success. They just give you the lowest possible chance for a failure.

There are two factors that come into play when repairing an item: the percent that the item has decayed and the quality of your repair tool. Even with a perfect repair tool sometimes an item is too far gone to salvage. And sometimes you just get unlucky.

That said, I can honestly say I've never gotten a criticalfailure with one of my 100% repair tools. Usually I'll get a good repair that lowers my weapon/armor condition by a small amount, but nothing too severe. Occasionally I'll geta repair that is only marginally good; repairs like that usually result in the loss of about 25% of an item's maximum condition.

If you want to maximize your item's life the trick is to never let it drop below the 50% mark. I usually repair my stuff around 50-60% condition.

NERF REPAIR TOOLS!!

Still kinda miffed tho. I mean is it a bug or is it intended? Surely if it was intended - how come i can craft perfect crafting tools?

It was intended to work this way. The devs love decay because decay means that eventually every item will wear out, which in turn meansyou'll have to buy new goods and stimulate the economy. If they made 100% tools repair something perfectlyall the time, they would effectively eliminate decay on all weapons, armor, and clothing. Additionally, I would be selling my 100% repair tools for alot more than 3000 credits each. Hehe... can you imagine what one would be worth to someone wanting to repair that ultra rare Night Sister lance with a 200 power mind fire? They'd sell for millions.

By the way, the Devs also love decay because it means that people will pay to get their items insured everytime they die. If there's anything the Devs like more thandecay, it's a money sink.
