Is it possible? Only able to play 2-3 days a week, and then only for a couple of hours, with rare exceptions. Is it possible to be an artisan? I'm not looking to run a business, just to possibly be a shipwright.

any crafter its next to imposible for the causual player tobe unless you dont care about the quality of your stuff and just want to play with crafting. That being siad the vast amounts of resources it takes to be a shipwright that one is the hardest to do.. it takes 7 million units to master and then tons of speicals to make stuff soo unless you have millions to buy resources or want to spend your entire play time operating harvesters your not gonna have much luck. though you maybe able to get into a guild and they will give you resources but that is not that likely for a casual player.. that being said there are a few choices the causual player has.
Artisan, A fire work maker. Make firewokrs in factories, and put packages together for some cash and then do shows. You can hire your self out for parties or do shows at high trafic starports.
Tailor, Resources for this are mainly fiberplast, metal, polymere, with very few specials. You can purchase hide cheap on the bazzar or pick up scout and some combat, you can always kill low end stuff at the keran starport with your cdef and get enough to make some stuff
Bio-engineer. This one once you get past the long grind, tons of meat is needed its really a nice profession. You can make money buy just making schems, though some bio's frown apon that i have no idea why seeing i have yet to find a server that has enough bio's to take care of the needs of everyone. But just let people know what they need to make the schem and they will bring you all the stuff and you can make some decent cash for just a few mins of work. Pets are lots of fun to make though kinda compicated but to me thats half the fun. being a master scout and having some combat defences helps a ton. Any of the bralwer classes and scout 4-0-4-0 atleast is a great start.. though the bralwer isnt nesseary, the scout 4-0-4-0 is, though you dont have to have the explore tree to be a bio, you will NEVER be able to gather DNA with out it. Even the non master scouts with +25 bio-mask scent clothing and jawa beer you will break you cover.. and /brust run can be your only option.
Architect, Even though this class does take a lot of resources to get to master, making furnature can be fun. One of the most fun things in this game can be creative decorating. Just check out the main galaixes page and look for a link that shows palyer created things. Everything from a christmas tree, celling fans, pool tables, even an x-wing and pod racer has been made using the stuff they give you.. the only special resources you really need are at master and you dont need many. Most you can prbly pick up from other archiects, or maybe on the forums or a nice resource vendor.
Just stay away from medic, armorer, weaponsmith, doctor, combat medic, and shipwright, chef,. for a causual player the speicals involved it makes it next to impossible
Happy crafting

I would say artisan is very possible it takes little time to master artisan its self.
As for Shipwright yeah thats really hard the ore and steel needed.....well lets just say it could be done very slowly but it would not be alot of fun.
But a master artisan with some combat skills do defend onces self in the field can make a lucrative living in the mining industry. Basically you contact a high end crafter and offer your services a few times a week finding the resource they need and maybe placing a harvestor or two for them. They pay you to get adim rights or they buy the stuff from ya either way its a decent way to make some cash for a part time player.

It is possible to be a "casual" crafter, as long as you don't expect to be one of the big-names on your server. I spend roughly 5-8 hours a week maintaining my stock, most of that traveling to find and purchase BE tissues.
The main thing is to get a stockpile of good resources. This can take a while: checking swgcraft.com for new spawns better than your current hoard, placing harvesters, checking on them every couple days, etc, but doesn't necessarily require a large block of time per play session. Creature resources require contracting a few hunters, since gathering a lot of meat/hide/bone/milk is a bit too rough on a casual crafter.
I'm somewhat fortunate in that I've been doing chef for a little over a year, so I already have large stacks of high quality resources on hand for whatever I want to make.
Once you have your resources, a regular schedule (which can still be broken up into short sessions) of factory run -> vendor restock, plus the occasional advertisement is all that's needed.
Shipwright is probably an exception, since you canonlyfactory produce a couple components (just missle/countermeasure packs, IIRC).
Although if you're not looking to run a business, there's not really much to gain from being a crafter (in my opinion, at least), although it does make it more casual-friendly. Making items just for yourself (and maybe guildmates) doesn't take long. It's maintaining a vendor and keeping it stocked that really starts to eat up play time.
