Artisans can make money on their own product selections. I have.
As for which elite prof is best? Well, it's kind of up to you. I've done armorsmith, architect, chef, and droid engineer. Of those, I enjoyed droid engineer the best. I still need to try tailor, shipwright, and weaponsmith.
They all have their market and their high and low points.
Up to you.

opps...
Hehe, guru you ahve done the exact same as me, i one up you though with Bio.. what a great prof that one is.. I aslo did combat medic, made like 4 things, hated the prof and droped it,..
Soo to add to guru's post, Some advice
WS, Armorer, and chef are all very resource intence, and by that i mean your stuff is all about resources and named ones at that.. soo unless you plan on 1 spending tons of time mining, and i would suggests atleast 2 months prior to starting the prof, or you have loads of money, and i mean loads of money to spend on resources, a good 20+ million dont bother with either of these.. Also to buy the tapes for a +25 suit will cost you another 30-40 million soo if your a rich player and have 100 million burning a hole in your pocket, or want to spend lots of time mining, and dont mind waiting to make a good product then by all means go for it..
Now if you dont want to do that,
DE and architect are the ones you want.
Archiect practical has zero named resources, only for master lvl furnature. To make good harvesters you need good steel, low grade and iron.. to up your BER everythihng lese you can use total crap. Interior decorators are big money makers and tons of fun and you can get very creative.. most funature just takes metal and hide, soo if you drop a few harvesters on it and hit dath and hunt leathery and wooly you aer set to make 1000's of things.
DE is a great prof. its a bit intense on the resources but 90% of the stuff the exp means nothing soo your pretty good to go. you will need to mine a bit but the units needed on most things is very low soo a 10k brick will last a long time. if you dont make combat or bomb droids your requiremnets for good resources just got cut in half,, and if you use the lvl 6 data, storage, medical and armor you only need a fraction of the max exp line to get full use outta these items. The only other thing about DE is it can be factory intence.. and making chasis can take a week to run all the parts before you are pumping out chasis.. but once you have chasis and parts run making droids is a snap. Droids are lots of fun and next to bio the most interesting crafting class there is..
SOo i guess ill tell you about bio, Making tissue for tailor is sorata pain but can be very lucritive as not many do it,, as a bio you WILL always be getting orders for this. The chef additvies only need organtic floral which you use greens as this is generally the easeist to find in good qaulity and carn meat, another easy to get in large qauntity and is generally good. One last thing if you want to make pets,, you should get master scout, as the mask bonus helps a ton, and its a great idea to use the rest of your skill points on a melee prof and you will have enough 2 max 2 trees with a few points left over,, go with defence trees.. this prof is great if you like to explore, find critters, and be a mad scientist. Crafting pets is by far the most interesting crafting class in the game with millions of possible combinations. Bio is also the least costly class as far as resources go, though tissue needs lots of different stuff, the price to unit ratio is very nice, and if you make pets your only real cost is the getting of dna,, which is free as long as you can get to it..
ohh and last star away from shipwright like the plauge, it cost tons of reasources to make master.. there is nothing that a shipwright can make that will touch good RE stuff, soo basically you become a missle maker,, thats lots of fun NOT.. why i droped bio for this broke A$$ prof is beyond me,, it was worse than the time i droped master pistoler/BH for carbiner/Combat medic.. god that was hell of i hope this gets better.. it never did,, im a CH/rifleman now and having a total blast,, pun intended : )
Hope that helped

My altwent Tailor, and although the grind is dull (aren't they all?) I find it one of the more involving professions I've done. I've met new people, made quite a bit of money from custom clothing and get to really interact with the stuff I'm making. I'm also Master Artisan and make 100k+ a week selling Swoops, power ups and weapon/armour/clothing repair tools.

depends on what you mean by best if you mean making the most money then AS or SW(which cost millions to start generally), the one with the fastest grind is ship wright with only needing to grind 89 ships if you do it the fast why but it takes rougfly 4.6 mill resources, the longest grind is probally WS and the reset I really don't know about exept on tailor and DE quality of resources generally doesn't matter.

I've done all the artisan professions now for a good length of time.
Weaponsmith - Right now the biggest money maker for me by far is grenade making in But weaponsmith kind of demands you get to 12 points in anything besides grenades to be competitive. The market is packed with top of line weaponsmiths
Armorsmith - isnt a bad way to go. But you are tied down to a million named resources if you decide to make all the armors. Right now wookie armor, padded and Ubese are the ones to make if you want to be different. Want to make comp like everyone else? Get ready to put out a lot of credits for good materials. Oh and look at the math which means that 1000 kinectic layers makes 333 composite segments which makes around 60 pieces of comp each taking 2-4 segments. Comp is one of the most wasteful items in game, outside of vehicles, in its use of materials to get the best out of it. I made a few million as an ubese seller selling to the jedi grinders. Its still a decent market to get into. Although lately my jedi grinders are wearing comp because of its higher durability.
Tailor - all the money is in bio-engineered clothing. And although it can be around 15-20k per piece you need a BE to help or by from. Tailor was by far on my top three favorite crafting professions. But you face a lot of really picky customers who wont pay you much for all the hours you put into it
Droid Engineer - Another one to do for the love of it and not the money. DE requires master artisan without actually requiring it as a pre-requisite. It is very parts intense and a good one to lose money on if your looking for a quick buck. But theres still something i miss about making talking trash cans and i have an alt going back to it now. I was a DE pre-revamp and im curious to try it post revamp
Chef - probaly the best CPU, materials, and time invested money maker. With one condition you know a BE who wont charge you much for additives. BE food sells well and there arent that many different components, named items, ect to get. Just fruits, berries, ceral, and some others. My wife is a Master BE/Master Chef on her alt and its doing very well for itself. If you have a BE in your guild and dont have a chef in a guild to compete against go this route. A guild will be more then happy to get you the meat and such you will need if you will be their chef .
Architect - my newest profession. Not a good cpu money maker and strangely to me more related to tailor. This should have been more of an interior designer title. Because in the end thats what you will end up using your skills for most. Its a very very resource intense profession with a lot of architects doing the same thing as you. But like weaponsmith and armorsmith if you find your niche you can do well. Architect has the easiest grind in the entire game. Once you get to gungan statues you are 90 minutes from master.
Master Artisan - You can make money just not millions and millions. Vehicles will always be in demand but there CPU is very low. You make a list of components that DE/AS/WS all need. DE more then anyone else is tied down to master artisan. And a couple foods that will sell every now and then.
Shipwright - the others discussed this 5 million resources to master and a flooded market of other shipwrights
Weaponsmith - Right now the biggest money maker for me by far is grenade making in But weaponsmith kind of demands you get to 12 points in anything besides grenades to be competitive. The market is packed with top of line weaponsmiths
