From what I gleaned from the core-systems board......

Ships themselves will not be craftables, but the modifications to those ships will be. Engines, weapons, sheilds, etc. will drop into the ship types and it is these mods that will be craftable by the Shipwright profession....

Because Shipwright will have an effect on the player economy, it will require skill points from your character. However, the piloting professions (Rebel, Imperial and Mercenary pilots) will NOT require skill points from your existing character.

It also appears that the SE will be twitch based, not turn based.....us old guys are going to have to practice a bit on T vs X......

This info comes from some grilling being done to the Dev's at the E3.......but don't quote me on accuracy

If this is so, I will drop this game faster than a a lightsaber cutsthrough an arm. The only reason I got this game at launch was so I could get enough wealth, materials, and experience to be able to craft ships when the SE came out. The only reason I created a Mon Calamari character was because I wanted toroleplay a Mon Cal shipwright.

Since launch, I've obviously found other ways to fill my time as my Mon Cal and other characters, but my main goal remains to be able to craft starships. I realize what GraySeven said is just tenative and probably pretty shakey, but if true, there's no way I'm staying with Galaxies unless there is something else so spectacular in the SE that I forget about not being able to craft starships.

Hah...if none of the ships were craftable at all...then there would be absolutely no need for a shipwright...you could easily put in master artisan for modifications and stuff

SOE's best possible move in JTL would to make all flyable craft craftable...save for special "looted" crafts..like the corvette speeder

The devs haven't said anything official but Engineer is a likely choice, based on what they have said.

Btw, the craftable says "no" because there is no info saying "yes." I will add an option for "unknown."

Dunno about all the others, but even if it's not required, you better be MA if you wanna go for DE or architect for something else than hologrind.
